Jane's Story

Life I was born in N.O, La. When I moved to Fl in '61, I was not a happy camper! It was a real culture shock! In La., I lived in Algiers which was a small city within the metro area. N.O. was across the river. Everyone knew everyone and their family for years. Behrman Jr-Sr had less in the student body than my 10th grade class at EHS! My brother and myself have always been quite happy we had the foundation in La., but grateful we moved to Fla. away from the turmoil of drugs, etc, which was just starting. I thank Kathy Warren and her Mom for including me when they attended basketball games. It opened a whole new perceptive for me. I was married to Dan Smithson for 21 years, and we are still friends. We have two daughters and 4 grandchildren together. I married Larry White (Tate-'68) in '92. Larry died in 2000. I bought a small cottage in the Strawberry Capital of La-Ponchatoula, also known as antique city. I was a stay at home mom until I divorced in 1985. I've worked as a cabinet designer in the building trade, secretarial, retail and was in the educational system as a school bus driver and teacher aide. I'm active in my church and help to take care of my 4 year old grandson. I am blessed to have my two bestest friends, Pam and Sandy, for 50 and 33 years! Pam lives 4 blocks away and Sandy in PNS. I married Larry White (Tate-'68) in '92. Larry died in 2000. I now live back in La. with my daughter, Danese, and her two children. I was a stay at home mom until I divorced. I've worked as a cabinet designer in the building trade, secretarial, retail and was in the educational system as a school bus driver and teacher aide. I'm active in my church and help to take care of my 3 year old grandson. I am blessed to have my two bestest friends, Pam and Sandy, for 49 and 32 years! College It took me years to get through PJC because of family illness. During my last year, I took classes that I wished I'd taken years before. I felt I could have gone on to other fields. But, alas, I was getting divorced and needed to make living expenses. My favorite professor, other than Dr. Callaway, took pity on me during the final. I got ill during the final. I had a 99 avg in Accounting. I was to graduate that evening! He dropped my final so I could graduate. I know I flunked it. I kept waiting for someone to pull me out of the line! I did graduate with honors! He told me later that he saw my illness and used his 'pull' to drop whichever grade he wanted! Whew!
