My first job was at Port Hueneme Navy Echange, where I got paid $1.75 per hour to be a receptionist/assistant for the optician. What I remember most about it is he was a nice man, and that's where I met my husband over 41 years ago. It was during Viet Nam, lots of security on base and all the young men I saw leave and go away. I've often wondered how many did not come back. They were just boys about my grandson's age now. I thought about their families and how we all worrried about those we loved. We got married after he came back, and Oct 14 will be 41 years we've been married. We have a daughter, with a granddaughter 19, and a grandson 17. And we have a son, single, living in Washington, DC. When I got married I moved to Connecticut and lived there 5 years, then we moved to NC where I was born and still have family.
