Jane's Story

Our New Life, Sept.1, 2004, my husband Bruce, our youngest daughter Becky, a collection of pets and I, up and left Delaware. We moved to a rural sleepy area outside of Charleston, SC- called Johns Island. It is 11 miles north of Kiawah beach, very laid back and lovely. Lots of fishing, hunting and friendly people. Our older daughter Rachel and her husband Joseph have lived in Charleston for 10 years. We loved visiting and thought what a wonderful way to live. So we did it! Leaving Delaware was hard, having lived there most of our lives, but our son Christopher is still there, so we visit in the opposite direction now. His son, Ryan is 4 years old now. He is going to give his Daddy a run for his money the way his Father did us. He's a very busy boy. Rachel & Joe have two daughters,Amelia who is 5 years old and Vivien 10 months. Most of you already know that Bruce suffered major strokes back in 1993. He made a valiant effort to recover to his former self, did pretty good for about 3 years and then suffered another stroke. I've added his name to P.S.DuPont's list, but as he can't type, we will share our profile together as we do everything else. So we would love to hear from as many of our classmates as we can. Bruce loves to dictate to me what he wants me to write. So - lets catch up! 6/08 UPDATE!! We are going to be grandparents again!! Rachel & Joe are expecting in Sept., another GIRL!!!! They live in Seneca, SC about 3 1/2 hours away now, but we still get to see them about once a month. Bruce and I were in DE last fall when his Father passed away and again in April when my sister Tina died from cancer. Not the best reasons to come North. Becky, our youngest is still here in Charleston. She's a teacher at the O'Quinn School on James Island. It's a very nice private school, kind of like Tatnall or Tower Hill. Christopher our oldest, is still in DE working hard, he's a single parent now and is a wonderful Father. We still have our assortment of pets. Now we are down to just cats. Our pooches all passed away. No more dogs....Don't anyone get any ideas about sending me any either. I worked at a Veterinary Hospital for 3 years, so they have it made. I still garden whenever I can, my tomatoes are abundant right now and my flowers are just beautiful. I love the fact that the growing season is sooooo long here. I usually start planting around the middle of February, can you believe it? UPDATE!!!10/8/08 We welcomed Vivien Josephine Tebalt into our family on September 25th. She weighted in at 7 lbs. 7oz. and was 19inches long. With blond hair and blue eyes she joins her big sister Amelia. Mom (Rachel) and baby Vivie Jo are doing well. UPDATE 1/13/09 Everyone had a marvelous Christmas and New Year. Thanksgiving was spent in Delaware with Christopher & Ryan. We pretended it was Christmas also, since we wouldn't be together at that time. A wonderful time was had by all. Bruce's brother David, wife Debbi and daughter Kelsey joined us for our Thanksgiving feast. My niece Kathy and family were out of town and loaned us the use of their beautiful home in Fairhill, MD. It's much easier for Bruce to maneuver in his walker than any other home up north. Christmas was spent in Seneca, SC, with Rachel, Joe and their girls. Vivien is very interactive now, cute as a button. Looks like her Mama. Amelia is - well, Amelia. Bright, funny and growing like a weed. Bruce and I can't believe that we could be so BLESSED! Bruce's health is stable right now. He's weaker in the legs, he gets PT twice a week, but he's declining faster that he can work at it. He still has his keen sense of humor and I think he always will. 8-7-09 Update Looking for work again! My full time job at the Vet Hospital go...Expand for more
t reduced to part-time 11hours a week. I'm sure there are a lot of you out there that can identify with my problem. Oh, well, time to reinvent myself again. Let's see, in my life-time I've been a model, salesperson, picture framer, personal assistant, receptionist, Orthodontic assistant, Medical assistant, caterer, wedding coordinator, commissioned artist, whew....I'm tired. 7-11-10 Update Thank God that I have a job now. I've been working for my Chiropractor here on Johns Island since April. I'm her office manager and the hours are wonderful for me, since I can be with Bruce for 3 hours in the middle of the day. Peace of mind is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately I HAVE to work and can't stay home with Bruce. He's pretty good about not doing things he shouldn't, but the worry is always there that something may happen while I'm at work. Who's to say that something couldn't happen while I'm home with him, I know, but some one has to make some money to pay the bills. My granddaughter Amelia turned 6 in May, it just doesn't seem possible that she's that old now. Vivien (little imp) will be 2 in September. I will be visiting them in 4 days for a long weekend. Amelia will be returning with me and her PopPop for a week at "Camp MomMom". We will do lots of fun things, crafts, go to the beach, cook, garden....... I can't wait. Bruce loves to sit and observe all the commotion and we try to include him in what we are doing if he's able. Becky is looking at buying her first home. It will be sad when she moves out, she's been a tremendous help and comfort to Bruce and I, but she needs to have her own life. We are still loving it here in South Carolina, even if it is hot and sticky in the summer. Rather be hot than cold and OH, that snow, how I don't miss it. We are trying to get it together to come North for a visit, but definitely before the cold weather hits, I really miss my son and grandson up in DE. Ryan will be 6 in November and just got his summer haircut, a MOHAWK!!!!! love it..... APRIL 2018 Been a long time! Wow, can't believe how time has gotten past me since my last update. Grandchildren update: Amelia turns 14yrs old on May 1st. She is quite the artist and musician. Plays the banjo, fiddle, guitar and the uke. Sometimes she plays 2 hour gigs in the historical district of downtown Charleston, when she and her family come to visit . She also dances, ballet & tap. Her Mom home schools her and little sister Vivien who will be 10 in September. Vivien is the family comedian and resident imp. Still tiny, but mighty. She dances also, sings quite well, but no musical instruments does she play. My grandson Ryan is turning 14 in November and is a heartbreaker in the making. His Latino looks and thoughtful and kind manner are a dangerous combination for sure. Very smart and athletic too. I recently had the honor of watching him play baseball for his school. My Dad would be very proud of his abilities. Our newest grandchild addition is dear sweet little Sloane, who was born on Feb. 9, 2018. Very laid back and beautiful. Quite edible. My sweet Bruce is failing before my eyes. He is now totally wheelchair bound and has major problems talking. His outlook is amazing and he continues to face his lot with courage and determination. My hero for sure. I have been working for a dental practice in Charleston now for the last 4 years. Wishing I could retire everyday, but the reality is, that it's very unlikely I will be doing so for a long time. Maybe I will win the lottery or Publishers Clearing House will knock on my door tomorrow........LOL it may be so, or may be no....more likely no. Hopefully it won't be so long in between my updates. Cheers!
