I moved to California in the 70’s. Before I moved, I worked in the Operating Room at Fairfax Hospital. I was not cut out for the operating room! After moving to CA, I worked at first at Long Beach Community Hospital. I had a really cool apartment that was built in the 1930’s. I had no furniture- just some big pillows, a kitchen table and a mattress. After a year or so I moved to Anaheim. I lived 5 minutes from Disneyland. I thought I’d never get tired of Disneyland-I did. I married. Had two kids and worked for a nurses registry. I worked all of the hospital- Med/Surg, Oncology, ICU, CCU. We moved to Moreno Valley because at the time, houses here were very affordable. California is a very expensive place to live. One night the nurses registry sent me to the jail and I was hooked! I spent the next 26 years there. We had over 6,000 inmates. Correctional Nursing is the best! I loved it. Nurses ran the jail. We had to be very good at assessment! We were first responders. It was like working in a inner city ER. Never a dull moment. So, for some of us, Adrenalin junkies. It was just the best place to work. When I left, I was a senior nurse and supervised about 40 nurses. Along the way, my kids grew up and I divorced my husband.
