Jane's Story

A lot has happened in the last 40 years. Unfortunately we cannot turn back time. All of our experiences and life choices have molded us into who we are today. I have a beautiful daughter who will be 25 and is engaged to be married next August, 2014. I raised her to make her own choices. Some other things I taught her were (#1) to be self-sufficient, so if you are single again you can survive; don't hold grudges; treat family like friends, and friends like family; Listen to music stay in shape; keep your friendships separate from your partner, you will need them again; do what you want, not because you have to; to thy own self be true; cherish your memories; take time for yourself (don't forget what you enjoy doing and make time for it); associate with those who make you smile, because those that don't, bring you down; - it's contageous and unhealthy stand up for what you believe; keep the faith life is too short - you are never too old to make changes. Lastly ~ believe in second chances. I went back to...Expand for more
school in 1996 to get my masters in Healthcare Administration, got a better paying job, and was able to provide for her and take vacations, etc. My father died in October 2000, a year after I got my master's degree. He was so proud of me. I was the only one in the family who got a master's and he told everyone. Life isn't fair, he died too young at age 66. Kristen attended Sacred Heart University as I did, obtained her masters, and now teaches 3rd grade in Fairfield. She was at the right place at the right time, and her internship thru SHU gave her the experience in the Fairfield school system. Anyway, now empty nest, adopted a couple of dogs, and for a cat lover, that's a huge change. I've driven to Virginia to visit Debbie Chaison, and am planning another trip in August to visit, after a two day work seminar in Baltimore. I see nothing wrong with separate vacations either. Six years ago I became involved in a Veteran's organization in town, and am active there and am starting my 5th year as unit president. So between driving to Trumbull just about every Saturday to visit my mother, sailing (my father's sailboat), gardening, quilting, working, I try to keep busy, try to stay positive, try to make the best of things. Reconnecting with old friends is always a "pick me up" too.
