Jane's Story
Life
I've got two kids. My kids names are Kristel (30) and Bryan (33) .Kristel has graduated from South Dakota University with a Bachelor's Degree to teach in four differenent programs, her speciality is Special Ed. and she is teaching special ed in the Blount County Tennessee High School, Maryville Tennessee, to be exact and her husband has graduated from South Dakota University in the Master's Program, they have moved to Maryville where he has entered the Ph.D. Program in exotic plants at the University of Tennessee . He will become a Professor in exotic plants and she will start her teaching profession. My son is a teacher in the music field at Powell Valley High School and Middle School in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, they are called the Powell Valley Vikings. They have been in the inaugral parade of Mark Warner for Governor. He started college at Morehead State University in Kentucky then he transferred to East Tennessee State University and received his bachelors degree. He taught at Pulaski County High School three years , then he went back to Wise , Virginia and his wife has two degrees to teach one in Psychology and the other elementry education. She went to the University of Virginia College at Wise. She is from Big Stone Gap, Virginia. I've held 3or 4 jobs since high school. I went to work right after high school, actually before I entered college. taking inventory for daddy at Parks-Belk in Norton. then I went to U.VA.WISE in the fall of 1968. Ididn't know it at the time ,but Cecil Albano went out there. My two kids have given me six grand children. I have four grandsons and two granddaughters . Four of the grand children -Brayden , Camden, Talen and Kelsey live in Big Stone Gap,Virginia and Gabbie and Zac live in Maryville, Tennessee. I live in Pulaski now and I am self-employed and at this late date I am going back to school for my Bachelor's degree which I will finish in September. I finished my Associate's Degree in October, 2008. Then I have already signed to go on then to my Masters Degree.
School
My biggest crush in high school shall be a secret to all who don't know me. The people that do know me I will tell, if they already don't know. The teacher who inspired me the most, was one of the one's that I only had for one year. His name was Mr. Lineberry, he kept on plugging along even though he was sick. I didn't realize this until after we had gotten out of school. I always thought he should loosen up ,but I knew he cared for his pupils. My craziest school memories are with Janie Hurd and who ever we may be with at the time. My happiest school memorie are of the canteen, especially,one night in particular. .Y.F. Hayride under the hay(enough said). There's my school life in less than four thousand words. I could go on and on , but I can't.If i did I probably would say more than would be respectable here. the funniest memory I have is the little girl next door driving the car into the side of our house. I give a lot of respect and love each teacher at Pulaski High School, they taught me a lot. Mr. Puckett, is a teacher I remember fondly and so is Mrs. Perdue because she helped me in the library so much. I also have found memories of all of my business teachers, they would be pleased to know it has helped me in life so much.
College
I suppose I had a unique roommate when I stayed at Mrs. Frost, her daughter, Charlotte, that is when I went to Wytheville Community College. At U.VA.WISE I lived at home. The cafetria food there was nothing to write home about or even to your friends about. I started using the vending machines a lot at school it tasted that "good". I did like debating with my law professor about business law, we still keep in touch today via his grandson .He's in my son's band program. I put in long,hard ,but fun hours planning and working on afashion show with top New York designers of the day. All set up by my business management professor. I helped with the new library at U.Va. Wise , I also got into some trouble with some of my professors by telling them right from wrong. Also,I skipped out of a class or two, who didn,t...hey,we're being honest,right? I wish I could say I went to every class faitfully,but when my husband came around....although I did go back after we were married to finish. Now, at age well figure it out, I'm going back and getting my Bachelor's and Master's Degree, online at a.iu.,I have already finished six classes and now I am in Strategic Management and Business Policy. I made the dean's list in my second class which was a Organizational class. Now I have made five Dean's List and I am working on another one which is almost over. I graduate in December from the Bachelor's Program. Then I go into the Master's Program in February.
Workplace
I first went to work at the store , Parks-Belk, with Daddy . Then, He moved me from the floor to the office as accounts secretary. At that time, I was also, working part-time as secretary at the Trinity United Methodist Church In Wise . Then after 10 years I went out on my own to own a set of stores in dublin ,Pulaski,and bluefield. Then I came back to Wise and retired or quit for awhile 20 years to be exact. Now I am in sales, self-employed out of my home and I am going to set up a Market Consultanting firm.
Military
I wasn't in the military.......I had a lot of boyfriends who were.
