Janeane's Story

After graduation, my parents and I moved up to Napa Valley, and there I met and married Phil. We have three children; Phillip, Christine and Ruth. In 1980,we then moved up to Washington State in the Pudget Sound area where we still live. I have 6 grandchildren and a great grand child on the way. Christine has the other three and they live in Texas.Phillip is still single and I know there is a special lady out there somewhere for him someday. My interests have change in listening to music. I enjoy listening to Native American flute it so soothing.... takes the stress away. I still like to paint especially murals, my husband allows me to paint on our walls. Good thing my mother isn't around or I would get a scolding from her... ha ha My dog's name is Hooch. .He enjoys stalking after the wild rabbits or snakes out on our property, or just barking at them.I suppose that is his idea of killing the poor creatures. Hooch never seems to learn about bees as he loves to catch them. Naturally he get stung, silly dog. I enjoy doing crafts and some gardening, and watching mystery movies, and comedy's. FacebooK, I'm hooked on the games.I can stay playing games until my husband comes home from work. Goodness what happened to my day?? Traveling by Amtrak is very enjoyable and it is the way I usually go to visit people in other states. Phil likes it as he doesn't have to drive. I have gone on the Northern route from Seattle to Chicago, then to Pennsylvania down the Eastern side to Georgia where I stayed one month with my daughter Christine and Kevin. They just had their first child and he was only 1lb. at birth, a preemie. He just fit into both palms of my hands. Amazing! Anyway back to my train trip. From Georgia I traveled by train down to Florida where I had to wait 12hrs. for the next train.Good thing there were vending machines. The train station attendants brought me food also.So I was taken care of. Nice ladies. I'm finally back on the train heading through the Southern States. It felt so strange to travel through the desert and past the town of Indio, with its many good memories that came back to me, from grade school to High school where I grew up. Arriving in LA, there was a small wait where I had to get off the train and then back on again. It was funny for the rest of passengers.(some passengers had to change trains.) I'm traveling up North again and before I knew it the train was arriving into the Tacoma station. So ended my train trip. My husband and I have been back packing up in the Olympic mountains back in 1990. Three of our friends would come and join us on a couple trips. One of the stories of our trip is about when my husband, Phil, who snores so loudly, that the others would wait until Phil finds a good place to make camp. Then they would find their spot clear away from him so they can sleep. I was the one who suffered much of the time and they always felt sor...Expand for more
ry for me and then realized that they shouldn't have complained so much. I enjoy the beauty of the high mountain ranges and the peace and quiet surrounding me. There are white mountain lilies that blanket the surrounding high meadows and sometimes there would be waterfalls to enjoy. I like to write in my journals because I never know what I would discover next. I did see an herd of Elk and deer. When we would come to log bridges to cross over that I get dizzy and have a fear of falling off and then I would freeze and can't move. One time I had to get down on my hands and knees, I was that scared. I had no one around to help me out. Yikes! Slowly I got over the log and then felt the need to hug a tree just to calm myself down. On one of our day trips I surprised myself, I had accomplished climbing up to 9000 ft. and with me carrying a 25 lb. pack I thought I wasn't going to make it. What a view! What a hike that was. I was coming down the trail of switchbacks and being so tired that I missed my step and fell going down the trail. I landed on bushes that stopped me from hitting a stump. Hikers behind me helped me up. No broken bones thank God. That was too close. I stop more often now as necessary when I am tired out. That was quite a lesson for sure. Other hiking trips took us through forests and evidently ended upon some of the hidden beaches that people don't ever visit. Long stretches of sand and where one could walk for miles and never see hardly a soul. Only the deer come down and possibly elk and bear, of which I saw only the tracks of.( I really didn't want to see them, the bears) We camped off the beach in the woods a little ways and discovered a stream where I could take the filter to get fresh water to put in the gallon container, which was used for cooking. We would wash our camping gear out in the sand, which is good for scrubbing, then let the ocean wash them out. The last time we hiked was in 1990's. I can still imagine hearing the crashing of the breakers against the rocks and the swishing of the little waves upon the sand. The beaches up here are very rocky and we enjoy looking in the tidal pools. Many starfish of reds, oranges and purple. I can still hear the seagulls and feel the soft breeze...I love going to the ocean as much as I can. Come of think of it, I'm ready to go again. It's been cold and rainy here from March to May. We are all looking to having our sunny weather that comes hopefully in June where it go up to the 90's depending on where you live. My family have been going to the ocean every year since moving up to Washington State. It's tradition! Christine and her three kids are coming out for one month this June. They have never seen the Pacific Ocean or been camping or walking on the mountain trails. Come to think of it, they never have been on a air plane. This year will be our families first reunion all together again.
