Janel's Story
After high school, I recorded and copyrighted 12 of my music compositions in my own studio while completing an associate degree in accounting. I am currently working as a real estate accountant in the DTC.
In 1994, I started bicycling and discovered a love of long-distance cycling. My first official tour took me down Mt. Evans which is one of the scariest things I've ever done - all the hairpin turns at 30-40 mph with overheated rims on an unfamiliar bike in sudden gusts of wind pushing me toward 500 the foot drop offs in the corner of my eye. Since then, I have completed the MS150 twice, the century at Elephant Rock once, and many smaller tours.
In 2006 my husband took me to swim with the stingrays in Grand Cayman, and the next thing I knew I was signed up for a scuba certification course. And in January 2009 I completed the PADI res...Expand for more
cue diver course. If you haven't tried diving, beware - it's very addictive!
I am also pursuing a life-long love of mine - horsemanship. About 5 years ago, I started taking riding lessons and began finding what is true about everything: The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know. This year, I finally found the courage to make the commitment of owning my own horse.
Through a fortunate turn of events, my 11 year old mare, Magic, found me. She had been retired from her reining career about 5 years ago, and had been left out to pasture for a year when my phone rang: "You need to come see this horse..." And I am now in the process of bringing her back, while she is in the process of bringing me up. (Teaching me what she knows).
I am hoping that 2011 will see us in the show ring and on the trail.
