Janet's Story
A BS from UNO in Special and Elem. Ed in 1970 and a move to Oregon in 1973, 8 months after my first son was born. In 1977 I secured a Master's Degree in Reading from Oregon State in Corvallis (go Beavers!).
I taught at Oaklea MS in Junction City (north of Eugene) for 27 years after one year of elementary school in Iowa and three years at St. Helens HS in Oregon. Middle School was the BEST! I have been retired for eight years now, just beginning my 9th year. I have an Etsy website for jewelry and children's baby towels and "dancing dogs"! I did reading tutoring two days a week at Eugene Waldorf School for five years and enjoyed working with 3rd, 4th, 5th graders. I was on the Junction City Habitat for Humanity Board for six years and continue to be the Volunteer Coordinator. I have worked on...Expand for more
three houses since retiring and Curtis and I have cleaned several finished homes before the Dedication. Our small affiliate is in the process of finishing our 18th home.
I have four children, all adults now and very productive; they are great people and I'm proud of all of them. My husband, Curtis, retired counselor from a Eugene middle school, is still an avid tennis player (my days for tennis are over, sadly, although I still exercise regularly and lift weights). We both enjoy hiking in this beautiful state and have found several breathtaking spots. Life is good!
I keep in touch with Sharon (Andrews) Maly (still living in Omaha, retired teacher), Betty and Barb Molzer (who live in Washington; one is still teaching, the other a school nurse), and Denny Steinauer, who takes amazing photos!
