Janet's Story
Life
After graduation I had a choice in what I wanted to do in life: join the military or go to college. I hate taking orders from over dressed bellhops and I refused to do school again. So I went to work for the Beacon Corporation and part time for my dad. Neither one was a pleasant experience. Skip forward to 1993 and I married Bill Durden, moved to Southern California and had 2 of his children, William II and Madeleine. We live in a small town near the Mexican border. It looks a lot like Lemoore in the early 1970's. Our town of Holtville, lost a young man in the Iraq war. All 4,800 of us showed up for his funeral. Three more young men died in the last year while stationed in Iraq. They were fighting this war for some unknown reason.
Other than that, things are all right.
Well, everything is not all right; there's no hockey. Since living down here in the desert I have become an NHL fan. My team is the New Jersey Devils and we try to see them when they come out west(to Phoenix or Anaheim). Old ...Expand for more
tapes are keeping us going and I hope a fix is in the future.
If you're a hockey fan, let me know!
School
Lemoore High School was all right. Sometimes I am surprised that it didn't go by way of school shootings. A lot of kids, including myself, were teased. Or left out, or were ignored all together. Two good things came out of attending LHS; my boyfriend who later became my husband. And knowing Mrs. Palermo, the lady who taugh English and Theatre Arts in room 115. Mrs. Palermo became my lifelong friend.
I hope my children attend LHS in the future. Bill and I want to move back to Lemoore. Living down here in Southern California is all right, but it's not really home.
College
NO!!!!!!
Workplace
I onced worked at Harris Ranch. Why not; I attended high school, there's cliques at HR, too. Then I shuffled off to Beacon Oil as a cashier. It was nice because the store was practically hidden away, and we knew just about everyone who came in.
I'm now a stay at home mom with better working conditions.
