Janet's Story
Life
I'm married to a great guy from North Carolina named Tom -- 20 years this year! We have a dog - a chow -- her personality is perfect for us -- the three of us are each very independent who like to be left alone and then periodically cuddle and do fun stuff together.
We lived in the Chicago area for 20 years and moved back in early 2004. We are glad to be back. We live near the Glenmont metro in Silver Spring - that seems to be working out well.
Three of my 4 sisters live in the area, the other lives in Wilmington, Delaware. Betwen the 4 of them, them have 10 kids - 9 girls and 1 boy -- See? girls still Rule!! And I love being an aunt! I spoil them and then leave when they are bad.
My parents still are healthy and live in the same house. My grandmother turns 99 today and while she lives in assisted living, she is in pretty good health.
College
I went to MC for my AA after BCC
Then I went to work and after a while started going to U of MD at night.
Got my BA from there (Business + Economics) in 1984
Then it was my MBA from GW -- Used to see Ann Truss there from time to time but we were never in the same clases, so it was not very regular

Workplace
So I work in the credit card business - I help companies who ACCEPT credit cards as a form of payment -- currently I work for Amtrak -- and I try to make those payments as secure and low cost as possible. It takes knowledge of the millions of rules put out by all of the card companies, laws by every regulatory agency you can think of - state and Federal level -- technology that can help or hinder transaction speed and security, customer concerns, bottom line company needs, marketing concerns, and on and on and on.
Some days I go back and wonder how I got here, but it doesn't matter, I know more about this stuff than most people know about their mother. (Probably more than anyone wants to know about their mother) Somedays its interesting but many days its just work. You guys probably have similar issues with your jobs.
