Janet's Story
After graduating from Stratford High, I attended and graduated from Fairfield University with a degree in Biology, Magna cum Laude (1978). In later years, I also attained professional certification as an Industrial Hygienist. An industrial hygienist handles the health part of safety & health and works with chemical exposures, biological pathogens, and engineering controls.

fety and Health programs for the EPA were compliant and up to date across the country. While doing this job, I visited all 50 States. I also worked as the Safety, Health & Environmental Manager for the EPA in Narragansett RI. This is a research facility which encompasses the entire Atlantic Coast. Prior to that I was an OSHA Compliance Officer in New England and a Safety & Health Professional for Pitney Bowes in Stamford CT. Presently I live in an old Victorian in Haddam CT with my husband of 35+ years, Louis Lemond. During retirement I have been busy writing a history book for my church, volunteering at the Goodspeed Opera House, writing a book on the Goodspeed, working on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut River Valley American Industrial Hygiene Association, and writing a book on a local physician who founded the field of industrial hygiene. I have given numerous presentations at the East Haddam Historical Society and Gillette Castle on my publications.
