Janet's Story
Life
I was born in Raleigh, NC and lived there through age 5. Mama re-married and we moved to Durham. We were in the Parkwood Apartments for three years (grade 1,2,3) while Crystal (my sister) and I attended Parkwood Elementary School. When Mama & Daddy bought a house in Durham, we went to Hillandale (4,5).
Before 6th grade started, the school district decided to make a "6th Grade Center" where all the 6th graders from the area would be housed. Ms. Bencey was my teacher. The following year I attended Carrington Jr. High (7).
Mama really wanted to get back "home" so we moved into an apartment in Raleigh that summer while we looked for a house. 8th Grade at E. Millbrook Jr. High. Ahhh, we were going to settle down. Not so fast...
Daddy got transferred to Alton, Illinois during the summer before 9th grade. We moved right across the river to St. Louis, Missouri, where I attended high school.
After high school and 1.5 years of college I went to work in admin for IBM, married the fellow I dated through high school (Doug Turner, Riverv...Expand for more
iew Gardens HS class of '76), divorced after 3 years. Started working for IBM in 1982 and was there for 11 years, the last 7 in marketing. I met my husband, Robert, in 1992 and we have a 14 year old son, Stephen BURROUGHS Gralen. We live in a 118 year old home in old St. Charles (2 blocks from Main Street). We love the area! Robert is a retired IBMer who enjoys golf. In February of 2008 I started working as a seasonal merchandiser/counselor for the Scotts-MiracleGro Company and thoroughly enjoy it. Yes, you can find me at Home Depot stores across the area helping customers figure out what RoundUp, Ortho, or Scotts products they need to grow grass while killing various weeds and bugs.
If you don't remember me, you are not alone. I blended in with the woodwork at school. The few who knew me probably remember my Raleigh, North Carolina accent which prompted Scott Smiley to give me the nickname Goober.
I have an older sister, Crystal Newberry Perry ('80) who lives in NC and younger brother, Tom Broadwell ('88) who lives in Hillsboro, MO.
