Janette's Story
The weirdest job I've had was working in a Gooey Duck factory. In case you have never heard of one, a Gooey Duck is a large saltwater clam. A friend of mine got me the job (we were about 20 at the time)and told me we would earn lots of money. It was so gross! We had to remove the gooey ducks from the shell and clean them, run them through a slicer and then pack them on ice. n part of the human male anatomy. Throughout our first day, we spent more time laughing than working. There was a dozen or so other workers, and we got them totally distracted, if not disgusted. Needless to say--we were fired. I think my total earnings for the day totaled about $25.00 which breaks down to a little over $3.00 an hour, which in 1975 was okay pay. But it was worth it, because I've been telling this story for years and it's still funny.
