Janice's Story
I attended Gracedale public School from 1970 to 1975-1976.I attended G.B. Warren junior High School
from 1976 to 1979.Even though I lived right next door to the school I was always late!I really didn't like going to school because I only had maybe one friend.I was pretty much an outcast because I had a learning disability. It was only when I went to Emery collegiate that I gained confidence, joined the student council and realized the direction that I wanted my life to go in.Emery was the best time in any school. Some of the teachers were interesting and strange.I remember one teacher was an ex-football player for the argos. He was atypical ego maniac jock who everyone swore either wore a wig or coloured his hair.Everyone distracted him from what ever he was teaching by asking...Expand for more
him about his son.He would flirt with any pretty student that walked in his direction! All through junior and senior high school I had the biggest crush on one of the most popular guys there. He had a very funny name but no one ever made fun of him.I never had a chance with him.I am now married to a man that I have known for twenty years. We went to Humber College together at the lakeshore campus. My husband is the love of my life.I have spent almost all of my life before high school knowing that I wanted to help other people who had a label put upon them.I am a developmental services worker supporting adults and children with special needs. It is a complete circle from where I started to where I am now.Emery was a huge influence in my life from the teachers to the students.
