I went on that long cruise around South America. We went up and down the Amazon, cruised among the icebergs in Antarctica and took the train through the Andes to Machu Picchu. I certainly was grateful for my climbing sticks then. I had such a good time I signed up the next year for another long cruise around the Pacific Rim: Asia, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand and some South Pacific islands. I learned that I do not do well in hot weather. Nobody went with me--I went solo--with several hundred others who were strangers to me then.
