Life I moved to North Dakota in 1967 with my husband, LaVere and lived on a wheat farm for the next 17 years. I attended the University of North Dakota, and graduated Cum Laude with a BS in Elementary Education. I taught first and second grades in Fordville, ND until 1984. In 1983, my husband was hit by a drunk driver while riding his motorcycle. He was killed instantly. I had two sons, 11 and 13 at the time. I later married Ron and moved to Grafton, which is "city" living compared to being on a farm, but a small town of under 6000 people. Then came Matthew who was born with Down syndrome. I stayed home with him in the early years, doing substitute teaching and writing children's books. When Matt was 17, I wrote a book about his life and growing up with Down syndrome. It is called For the Love of Matthew., Growing Up with Down Syndrome. I give motivational speeches to groups interested in learning more about Down syndrome and the potential that lies within.
