Janice's Story
I started grade nine in 1969 at John F. Ross Secondary. I left the secondary school in June 1973 and went directly into a first year of university at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. I did an early entrance program at the university with a small scholarship, thereby skipping Ontario Grade 13. I transferred into the University of Guelph for my second year and graduated from U of G in 1976 with a General BA with a major in psychology. I took eight years off from academia. ut in 1981. In 1984, I enrolled in the PDP program at Simon Fraser University. I was hired by the Vancouver School Board as a TOC in 1985. I worked for the VSB until 1989 and had my first child, Aaron, in 1988 and my second child, Tracy, in 1989. I was hired by the Surrey School District in 1990 and started my career there as a half time Kindergarten teacher. I began full time teaching in 1993 for SSD #36. Since then, I have upgraded my teaching certificate. I completed a Post Baccalaureate in 2000 and a Diploma in Education in 2003. I achieved my Masters degree in 2010.
