Life I managed to spend most of my adult years in Houston, but have still managed to indulge my itchy feet. I lived in Austin for a few years in my early marriage, Houston during the balance of my marriage, then nearly ten years in South Carolina during my early divorce, back to Houston for 15+ years, and now in Perth, Western Australia on the Indian Ocean -- the world's most isolated capital city, the ads say. We are closer to Kuala Lumpur than to Sydney. The climate is Western Mediterranean, found in only two other spots on the globe, San Diego, California (my place of birth) and the western Mediterranean. I may never become accustomed to Christmas at the Summer Solstice (though, I must admit, age has brought an increasing so-what attitude about Christmas). Traditional Christmas dinner here is mounds of fresh seafood and in-season fruits.
