Janice's Story
You might remember me as being the girl that was getting married at a very young age. I did get married at age 15 and I have been married for 40 years to the same man. We had struggles along the way,Doug was drafted 5 months later.I traveled with him to Texas and then he was off to Vietnam. That was the loneliest year of my life.I met him in Hawai on his R&R and it was beautiful there. After Vietnam we lived in Alabama for the rest of his time in the Army. We came back home to Knoxville and have lived here since. re I got paid minimum wage to cook, pump gas and run the register all night long on the 3rd shift. What I remember most about it is the strange and scarey people that came in..
I was extremely shy in school and very insecure.I made a few close friends,Debbie Pagent, who got married at 15 like I did. She was missing for awhile and then was killed in a car wreck at 16. It devestated me and I had nightmares about her for a long time. I wondered if I would also die young.
My boyfriend before Doug was Joe Almond. He played the drums in band and had a Beatle haircut and I had long blonde hair. Some people called us Sonny and Cher or Ringo and his woman. Those were fun carefree days. Has anyone heard from him?
