Janie's Story

Married to David Bess for 48 years Mother, grandmother, retired cosmetologist instructor, businesswoman for over 35 years. Author of Visions. a memoir Founder/President Writers Resource Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit writing organization in Northern California. I have enjoyed living in different countries in the Far East with my family. Life has given us some challenging times! We are parents for three biologocal children and two adopted sons who are much younger than my biological children. Our first son, Little David was born, deaf-blind. Now Little David is still deaf-blind but lives a full life with his wife and deaf friends. We are so proud of him! He has appeared on different TV shows, featured in the local news, Oakland Tribune(1967) ) Jet Magazine(1978). I wrote the story Visions to help others. I wanted Visions to give a lesson to its readers. A lesson of what love, patience and faith can do for us all. I hope and pray that Visions will encourage others not to give up on your dreams and ambitions. Little David didn't--and because of prayer and faith, David lives a well-adjusted life with self-confidence He is very happy and well adjusted! This is the cover of my first published Book, A memoir appropiately titled, VISIONS, A Faith-Inspired Journey of the Human Spirit. (Rev. ed. Oct 2007)Publisher:XLibris ISBN# 978-1-4257-9896-3. I always wanted to be a writer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a bad idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. Q: How do you blow off steam? write. This keeps me from doing or saying something I may regret later. Got trophies on your mantel? Yes, many Bowling League trophies with my husband as my partner, Toastmasters Awards,Author on the Move nominee by Sacramento Library Foundation, for my first published book, Visions. other Author awards etc; I always wanted to be a singer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, I were wrong. I love to sit at home out on the back deck just before sunrise drinking coffee or tea, and meditate. I also like to read good books. You may find me deeply involved into revising and editing pages of my soon-to-be- novel, Diary of a Military Wife in the Philippine Islands. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Carol and Carl Adams, because they were my first fraternal twin friends at Berkeley High School. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my kitchen and add on an island. My dream home is right where I live. If I won $100 million, I'd give part of it to of it to Children in Africa (Ghana,) Then I would spend the rest on my husband, my children and college. tutiton for all the grandchildren. My current age is 67. When I was 12, I thought that all the people my age, including me now would be all dead. I was so completely wrong.Thank God, I am still here! My husband David and I once bowled on several leagues statesides and abroad. We won first place trophies in a lot of games and tournament. We are enjoying our retirement and leisurely traveling in our young senior years. :).
