Janine's Story
Life
My life now is great. The most impressive part of it are my two children, Samantha and Frankie and my husband, Frank. Still involved in cheerleading, my daughter is now a Biddy cheerleader for St. Charles and, of course, I am smittent.....My life has been ridden with many obstacles, the most difficult being a battle with breast cancer in 2004 and because of that I have become much stronger and appreciative of how precious time is and how important it is to find your purpose and ENJOY every minute of it. I still say my life now is great, everything happens for a reason. I just found out (January 2008) that my cancer returned and I am faced with yet more obstacles right now, but I truly believe that this too shall pass. I pray everyday that my children do not get affected by this disease and I will stay strong for them.
School
Wow, I loved my high school experience at Sea, 4 years that can never be redone. My favorite teacher was Mrs. Iacovetti, probably why I went back to school to become an English teacher. The most fun I had at Sea was being a cheerleader and I love all of the great people I met through cheerleading. I wouldn't do it all over again because it was great while it lasted but now is so much better.
College
I am currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Education. My undergraduate college days were low key. I graduated from CSI with a degree in English Literature and Secondary Education. My real true college experience ...Expand for more
was visiting my BFF, Tracy Murray, at Seton Hall....crazy days. We had fun, again a time that never comes back so we enjoyed every minute.
Workplace
I started working at a doctor's office full time on Staten Island in 1994, I realized that I didn't want to work for doctors so I moved on to Manhattan in 1995. One of the best decisions I ever made, I wouldn't trade my Manhattan work experience for anything!!!!! My first job was really exciting. I worked for Michael Werdiger, the diamond manufacturer (they made Brittney Spears' diamond outfit). It was really an eye opener and I met great people who introduced me to the city experience. I got recruited out of there after 2 years. Although it was a great experience, I wasn't getting paid much. My last job was with Highland Search Group/TMP Worldwide, an executive recruitment firm mid-town. I finished there as an executive assistant to the CFO, a partner and a senior recruiter. I loved working there and met friends for life. My ultmate job, though, is being a mom. I am so passionate about it and I love taking care of my family. I stay at home and plan on going back to work in September, trying something new. I never actually put my teaching degree into play. So, I began substitute teaching in the fall 2007 to really see if this is the direction I would like to take the second half of my life in. I am enjoying being a teacher and am happy to be working with kids every day. I love them!!!!!
