Janis's Story
Life
I attended Santa Ana College for a year before moving to Illinois and completing my Associates Degree. I really enjoyed traveling in my 20's. France with my sister, Cancun with Kirsten Schwalm, Hawaii, and Scotland. In 2001, I stopped working (temporarily) to start my best job yet, being a Mom. My husband is General Manager/Publisher and I'm the Managing Editor for our local, weekly newspaper in Morgan County, Ohio. We have four children. Our oldest was married in 2019 and our first grandchild is due in May 2021!

ecently it wasn't growing. Now it is 4cm and pushing on my throat. I had my first surgery on Monday, 4/21/08 to have the right side removed. They tested a section and thought it was benign, but later discovered it is malignant so I had surgery again 7/2/08 to have the rest of my thyroid removed and received a single dose of radio-active iodine at the end of October '08 to kill any remaining thyroid cells. I had to be secluded from my kids for 10 days. I missed lots of hugs, but it was a quiet 10 days. December '09 I was told I was officially cancer free!!! - - UPDATE 12/02/20: Still cancer free!
