Jas's Story
The year was 1969. I was born on a warm spring day in a tiny little village in the middle of eastern Europe. And then a few weeks ago I turned 39. I gotta tell ya, before the pop-up blocker came along, those classmates.com ads were really beginning to chap my ass. I was starting to hate Tom Hanks. Then at the reunion, I was told that about half of
our class was on there.
So is it just me or did these past twenty years just fly by? For a few months after high school, I worked a series of forgetful jobs until I could figure out what I wanted to do. I flirted with the idea of going to FIT but instead, ended up joining my high school chum down in Florida to attend a technical institute. Some time later, he moved out to the west coast and I took up playing golf with a few crazy 70 year-old retirees. I paid rent by working various jobs again and working concerts here and there rigging sound. I realized it was time to move on when I started to seriously consider retirement. The problem was that I was only 22. So it was either move up to Atlanta where my girlfriend was attending college or move back to Jersey. A list of pros and co...Expand for more
ns chose Jersey for me. Once back, I took a shot at the film industry but ended up in IT instead (more of a steady income). A few years later, as a so-called war laid waste to my country of birth, I felt an obligation to go help. I ended up working for the U.S. Defense Dept. It was an eye-opening experience to say the least. But moral issues and being a little too righteous landed me back in the states where I once again found myself taking a shot at the film industry. When I concluded that Sisyphus himself would¿ve had better luck making it in the film business than I did, I once again decided to go back to IT, at least for the time being. Believing I¿m still young enough to make a career change, I¿ve decided to go back to school. Hopefully it¿ll also help me decide what I want to be when I grow up.
So where does family fit into all of this? It doesn¿t. Believe it or not, it wasn¿t until my niece and nephew came along that I realized that I would actually enjoy being a dad. I kind of dig the Baby Einstein stuff but those Mickey Mouse sing-alongs are killin¿ me. Nonetheless, I can¿t wait to have a few of my own now.
