Jasmine's Story

Life I am a United States Marine. I've been in the Corps for over a year now and love my job. I've seen more of the United States than I ever really wanted to, however, it's not so bad. I've met the most amazing (...and not so amazing) people I never would have met otherwise. Though 3 months of bootcamp was certainly not a high point in my life, it has been the most rewarding experience I have ever been through. I would encourage anyone to do it. I am excited that I get to travel as well. I leave for a boat deployment for at least 6 months in July 2007. I'm actually excited about it. I can't wait to leave for Iraq when the time comes. I haven't quite finished school but I believe God called me in another direction. I'm working on finishing my degree though with my work, it's often hard to do. It will get done. My family still lives in Arizona, however, my baby brother is also a Marine as well and stationed here on the east coast with me. Well... I'm in Arizona. I moved down here with my family on July 19, 2000 and it was some insane temperature around 115... Not quite like what we get at home, but then again, it's a "dry heat" (I don't care what anyone says, anything over 90 is HOT!). I'm graduating in December 2005 with a BA in English Literature and a minor in Athletic Coaching. I go to Grand Canyon University, a private Christian university, and was a CHEERLEADER there for 2 years. I joined Army ROTC with the notion that I would become an officer but I am getting medically discharged due to various complications with my knees and upcoming knee surgery (lucky me, I get to do both!). So, I am looking into emergency secondary education so that I can teach when I graduate. I was an assistant track coach at Sunrise Mountain High School in Peoria this passed track season and loved every minute of it. I coached at Barry Goldwater High School in the Spring of 2002 which was also a very fulfilling experience! I had the joy of being the hurdle coach. I am hoping to continue as an assistant coach for the hurdles this Spring at Sunrise Mountain as well. I have been in a committed relationship for a couple of years (almost 3) and am looking forward to getting married after I graduate and starting a family (...all this from the girl who said she would never be married or have children!). It seems as though God has lead me to this crazy state for a reason. I miss EVERYONE. If anyone wants to contact me PLEASE feel free to email me here so I can pass along my actual email to you. God bless you and I hope to hear from you very soon!!! School I had so much fun at Eastlake. I made a lot of friends, but lost a lot after we graduated. I must say that track was the high point of my career at Eastlake....Expand for more
.. that and maybe prom... or not so much. Actually, I didn't really like high school now that I think about... College I went to three different community colleges, one in Washington and two in Phoenix. I started out as a Physical Education major at Everett Community College, moved to Phoenix and changed to Elementary Education at Glendale Community College. Then I thought I would enjoy high school better so I switched to Secondary Education. I switched to Phoenix College and didn't know what I wanted to do. In the fall of 2002 I started Grand Canyon University and decided on double majoring in English Literature and Secondary Education. I also, shokckingly enough, became a CHEERLEADER!! (Who would have ever guessed?) When the spring came, I decided to enroll into Army ROTC and with that came a change in my major yet again. I then decided on English Literature with a minor in Athletic Coaching. I figured since I would be going into the Army when I graduated, It didn't make much sense to major in Education as well... Little did I know what God would have in store for me! I ended up in the Marines!! Go figure, right?? Workplace I have had too many jobs... I have been a cashier, worked in the meat department of a grocery store, sold children's clothes at Nordstrom, sold shoes at Reebok, worked in the home audio department at Circuit City selling home theatre systems, worked at KinderCare with infants to children 2 years old, was a receptionist at Bally Total Fitness (Which was awesome because I got to work out all the time and be cute), I was a server at a bar and grill for a year, sold lotions and body products at Bath and Body works, was a receptionist at a prestigious law firm in downtown Phoenix, was a server at Red Robin, a manager at Wal-Mart, and now I've found my place in the Marines. If volunteering counts, I was really involved in my church. I worked with the youth primarily. I also coached track for three years at a local high school in Peoria, AZ and even got college credit for it. Military I was involved in ASU Army ROTC for two years. I had three friends involved in the program and the more I was around them and saw what they were doing, I instantly wanted to join the Army and be an officer. I went to FT. Knox Kentucky for a month in June 2003 and had the time of my life. It was physically and mentally demanding and I loved that I was constantly being challenged. I learned to overcome a lot of my fears and made some awesome friends from all over the United States (and one from Puerto Rico). But, as God's will prevailed, I enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in September 2005 and left for 3 months (...for what i thought was going to be intense training) of USMC bootcamp.
