Jaye's Story

I hope my friends remember me, not so much for the shy, wall flower that I was but for the feircly loyal friend that I have always been. Whether we have stayed in touch or not, whether you consider me a friend or I am dead to you, If you were my friend You are still my friend, NO MATTER WHAT. I will always be there if needed. I always wanted to be a photographer when I grew up. My Father didn't care as long as I was happy and my Mother that was a silly idea, and so my friends never knew about it. As it turns out, they were wrong. But like a good little girl I made another choice, one that satisfied my Mother. Paula talked me into going to Fort Hayes our Senior Year. I took the OR Tech Training class did that for 4 years then began what turned out to be a 17 year health care career that took me BACK to North High School for My Nursing School Training. I then spent 12 years at Ameritech/SBC/AT&T. 2 Years at National City Bank, 18 months working at Hudson News in the Cleveland Airport, 19 months in a Casino in Las Vegas and I am now back collecting debt. During the late 80's and 90's I began the photography thing again and I am still holding out hope of a career in photography again. I am really good at it. I'll show you my best stuff some time. Listening to music. Anything but RAP and Country and Western. Heavy Metal is one of the best ways to blow off steam. I wasn't actually "in school " but when I was thirteen my cousin Robin got me totally "porceline god" drunk on Rum and Coke....to this day I still can't drink it. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have Music, Photos of loved ones, and Coca-Cola to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Music has always been what kept me together and that is still the case. Seeing my loved ones Mike, Ryan, Carrie, Jess, Kurt and his family just reminds me Why I am doing what I am doing. It's hard to explain but their presence in my life is what gives me purpose. My Hero's in life have changed over the years but one thing has remained the same They were all strong women except for three of them. The women were: My Nana who was a single mom in the 20's and 30's and a nurse, she took care of what needed to be done. Columbus Police Officer Jeannie Bray... What can I say she was a Lady Cop with a Gun, and a message of safety first, you don't get stronger than that. My Aunt Rusty and Aunt Mary, They were each strong independent women with their own goals and ambitions, but never forgot that Family came first. My Cousin Robin....She was, what I only learned after her death, illiterate, but was one of the most amazing, loving, fun, intelligent and caring women in my life. I learned more from her than just how to have fun. Cheryl McCraw was one of my bosses at Ameritech. She taught me the importance of balance and knowing how to find both the good and the bad in EVERYTHING. Maya Angelou.... MY GOD WHAT A STRONG Woman she is. Her words ...Expand for more
bring strength to any woman who is willing to open her heart. The Men who have been my heroes are My Daddy, BECAUSE HE WAS MY DADDY! My Godfather Stoddard J Cortelyou, he served his country as a United States Marine in both WWII at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th 1941 and Korea and My Great-Nephew Major Kurt Joseph (Slammer) Distelzweig, who has honored Our family with his Service to Country through the United States Air Force in Afghanistan and Iraq. Grew Up in Columbus, Moved to Cleveland in 1996 to be closer to Mike who I eventually married in 1997 and out to Las Vegas in 2010. It was time for us to both leave the safety security and the crappy weather of Ohio....Besides if we want snow we can go to Mt Charleston, make a snow angel and come home and get in the pool. OSU Football, Survivor, Criminal Minds, NCIS, NCIS LA, CSI, Star Trek If I won $100 million, I'd give 24,000,000 of it to Operation Smile, that would pay for the life changing surgery for 100,000 children who are born with cleft palate and cleft lip all around the world every year. Then spend the rest on vacations to Australia and Africa for Photo Safaris, a house in Lake Tahoe and one in Las Vegas and the rest for fun things and living out the rest of my life.. Pursue the photography thing from school days to today. I know I could be a great photographer. In 10 years, I hope to be comfortably semi-retired. I'm going to get there by working hard where I am now and making enough to pay off all bills put some away and start doing the photography again. My three oldest friends are Emma Jean Fulton Murphy Deanna Bosworth Self and Paula Peck Weatherman. Jean lived across the street from me. I met both Deanna and Paula at Calumet Elementary School. These three women were the first friends that I had that excepted me exactly as I was and NEVER EVER made fun of me or ridiculed me for being different than they were. Not only am I a Metal Head, Photographer and Wife but I had 3 step sisters that had three children between them and I am am also a Great Aunt to 7 kids that are all adults and great great aunt to over 2 dozen other kids. My first job was at Wyandotte Steakhouse at The Ohio State fairgrounds, where I got paid $2.50 an hour plus tips to serve food to all of the ranchers, Cattlemen and Horsemen that came to the Ohio Stata Fair and the American Quarterhorse Show. What I remember most about it is that all of the men that came in would flirt with me and treat me so nice which was so amazing and surprising to me because all I thought people ever saw was the scar on my face.. It isn't such a pleasant one but I remember how the entire North High School Community embraced the Burton Family after Mark Burton fell to his death in the ravine behind their house. Everyone was part of the love and healing process for this family that had suffered so very much. That was one of the first times that I saw WHAT A COMMUNITY CAN DO!
