Jean's Story
First off I still live in St Joe. I married Gary Smith, he was from Waverly, MO and we share three children and he has two from a previous marriage. The love of my life and my best friend to which we had been married for 40 years when the good Lord called him home on March 7th of this year. I miss him so very much each and everyday We have a total together of 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons and 1great granddaughter. I have a wonderful family that are loving and fun to be with and they are always looking out for me especially since the passing of their dad. My husband and I loved riding our Harley motorcycles together on beautiful days here in town but our favorite place to ride them and it still is mine is in the Badlands and the Black Hills of South Dakota. I also enjoy sewing, embroidery and quilting. I also enjoy a little gardening. I love flowers and have planted several Lilac trees, bushes, peonies and roses in my back yard. I have daffodils and roses in the front yard as well. Since I have so many flowers my husband decided to do some landscaping on our own my husband did the heavy work of placing all of those landscaping bricks the way he designed. I have the privilege to be friends and work with a couple of Lafayette classmates, Marsha Miller and Cindy "Daniels" Winger. I have worked for Sara Lee now Tyson Foods for 23 years. Before the world of Sara Lee, I had gone to college in KC and got my degree to beco...Expand for more
me a Paralegal. I worked for two attorneys here in town for several years and although I loved what I was doing it did not come with many benefits (medical/dental/vision / prescription ins) and with children that is a must have. My husband who was employed at Mead at the time (30 years until their closing) had insurance on the entire family but two are better than one when it comes to how much of the bills you are left with. After the closing of Mead he went to work for the Harley Davidson plant in KC - By then our children were grown and doing their own thing. I would always take a few days off in the beginning of Sept just so I could go to the open house and tour the plant - and I loved to watch him work for a short time and then wait for him until he was off work. That was always a special time for us - we would hold hands and walk around the many vendors of the open house purchase a few items and converse with several people. Once we left the open house we would have a nice quiet dinner just the two of us. It was always a toss up on which one of us would decide where we would eat as I liked to have either steak or mexican food ( he didn't like mexican food at all ) or his favorite Italian food (which I don't care for), My best advise to anyone that is single and in a serious relationship or married is enjoy your life and enjoy every moment you have with your partner and don’t take anything for granted. Life is too short.
