Jean's Story
Life
I was a research chemist for almost 20 years when I had two more children after the age of 40. I decided to be an at-home Mom after the first was born. Later he was diagnosed with autism (mild), so I continue to stay home to raise my children and do whatever I can to help him in terms of medical treatments, education, etc. In fall of 2004 my youngest will be in young 5's and my oldest will begin college. This keeps me very busy with their activities and my son's disability. I find great satisfaction and purpose in my life as it is now, particularly in how to treat my son's autism. I am in volunteer organizations related to autism and my other childrens' schools and activities and I do some public speaking mainly to high school students.

er 18 (will be attending WMU in August), a son 16, a son 6, and a son almost 5. My daughter was very active in cheerleading (4 years varsity), state and regional champion baton twirler, student senate, PALS (peer helper), was on homecoming court, and does a lot of community service. My son 16 years is an avid skateboarder and currently has one sponsor. He competes locally from time to time. My son (6 years, autistic) will be in first grade, and is fully included in a regular classroom with the aid of a parapro. I believe his disability is the result of mercury toxicity from thimerosal (mercury presevative in infant vaccines). My youngest son will attend young 5's in the fall. My husband is employed by Pfizer as an FDA regulatory specialist. I consider myself retired (permanently!).
