Jean's Story
Life its ownself
After finally buckling down and earning an A.B. and a J.D., I discovered that I had become an addict to sailing and, particularly, long-distance cruising. In between working as an archaeological field and lab technician and data manager, a researcher and indexer for legal textbooks, a sailing and windsurfing instructor, and a native species revegetation specialist, I managed sails from SF to British Columbia, Mexico, Hawaii, Samoa, and Fiji, as well as a few trips back from Hawaii (HI to SF is upwind and takes longer than the other way, so it's less popular).
A couple of years ago, State Parks funding dried up for reveg projects such as mine, so I'd been working on archaeological projects in Mendocino, Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Solano, Contra Costa, San Mat...Expand for more
eo, and Santa Clara counties. When new construction tanked in 2008, the archaeological gigs also dropped to almost nothing.
I do occasional revegetation or legal research projects for friends and associates, and I'm still proofreading part-time for Latitude 38, the Left Coast sailing magazine. A flighty person needs many skills....
We haven't been sailing or windsurfing as much as we'd like, but Les and I occasionally race on other people's boats.
Had a great time at last year's 50-year class reunion, and I plan to make it back for the 55-year iteration, if not before then. The Northeast is stunningly gorgeous in the early autumn, and there are so many great people to see!
Wishing everyone an excellent holiday season, whatever your preferred reason(s) for celebration.
