Jeane Lambert's Story

I went to Wharton Grade School and Wharton Jr. High. I lived in Wharton in the first camp after the bridge you crossed after leaving the company store going toward Van. When my dad lost his job after a back injury, my parents moved to Lincoln Co. I moved to New Orleans, Louisiana to stay with my sister. I attended Morris Harvey, where I received my bachelor's degree in education. I attended West Virginia University where I received my master's degree in administration and supervision. By 1975 I had added +45 hrs. to my master's degree. I continued to take a class or two until 1995. I started out teaching elementary school and ended up teaching high school. For several years, I taught homebound children (after school) until they established regular scheduled teachers to go to student's homes. I taught Adult Education Classes in schools in the evenings or in community centers located out in isolated areas. I had students that ranged in ages from 15-65. In one center I had 3 generations of females. It was a very full filling vocation. I coached girl...Expand for more
s' basketball in the elementary schools when they still had the seventh and eighth in the elementary schools. I sponsored the SADD Club, Journalism Club, National Honor Society, Eagle's Nest (student's mentoring other students), Hamlin Jr. and Senior High Cheer Coach Sponsor, Pep Club and was nominated and accepted to the MENSA Club after testing. After I had to take disability retirement, I greatly missed working with the students and still do today. Workplace I worked 3 yrs. in a sewing factory to help pay for college. In Aug. 1968 I started teaching in Lincoln county. I taught 30 years and had to take disability retirement due to a work-related injury. I think the playground was my favorite memory. I well remember the day I was swinging on the chin up bar. The bell rang and I jumped back and landed on an orange peeling someone had thrown down. When we went into the classroom, I told Mrs. Bradley there was something wrong with my arm. She told me to let her see it. When I held it out it was dangling. I ended up wearing a cast for 12 long weeks.
