Jeanita's Story

Jeanita's attended Jefferson Grade School and Shawnee High School. She earned a Bachelor and Master degree in Microbiology at the University of Oklahoma Before moving on. She has 3 children born in 3 different states. Jeanita later attended The University of Arizona (Land Use Law) where she later served on the Pima County, Arizona Parks and Recreation board where several of her proposals were adopted. She was active in getting environmental progressives and the first women candidates elected to office. Jeanita and her husband, Jerome, moved to Grass Valley, CA, with their 3 children to be closer to her mom and her new husband. (Jeanita's dad had died when she was a senior at Shawnee in May, 1962).. They built their own house and homesteaded the land; They raised goats, fowl of all kinds, rabbits and English Sheepdogs. She earned her teaching credential in science and spent a year developing a science program for a K=7 School in Newcastle, CA. complete with several all school science trips and science fair. The children helped with establishing a nature trail in the nearby woods. The school won the Golden Bell Award for the best Science program for an elementary school in California. With the job completed and the teachers trained to teach science, she went on to teach in an inner city high school where she found herself teaching, not only biology, her major, but also, chemistry, physics. She later was science department chair and spent several years there. Summer times were spent running the herb farm and teaching classes to the people who came to buy herb plants and products hand made at the farm and view the formal gardens she and Jerome had designed. Always the adventurers, the Ives made another move to the Ozarks of Arkansas where they built another house. als...quilts, baskets, and wooden crafts were top of the list. Next move was to Kansas City Missouri where they did many things. Jeanita put her microbiology degree to work in a lab for a while, taught school and finally decided she and Jerome would start a photo art business. In the next few years they had many exhibits in many corporate offices and sold many pieces of their work int0ermanent collections all over the Kansas City area. We had decided we didn't like snow and extreme heat and after several visits to various countries in Central America we decided to retire in Costa Rica. We have been here 5 years and are very glad we made the move. We love our new home and the many new friends we have made. We live in perpetual spring here and can afford to live on our social security quite comfortably. As an avid nature lover I feel like I am in bird heaven. This little country that they would not have an army and feel that getting along with others is the way to live. The people here are generous, happy and help one another. So Pura Vida to you from our final home. Jan.2016 Update... Jerome and I are still enjoying Costa Rica. We moved a bit north where it is a bit cooler in a housing area that faces 200 acres of coffee with the mountains in view behind....Watching the harvest this year makes one respect all the work that goes into a good cup of coffee...It is all planted,, cared for and harvested by human hands.. During the harvest rim in Dec. we have seen huge dump trucks filled to the brim with red coffee beans heading to the processing location up the road from us. There were huge mountains of hulls removed from the bean in the rear of the processing area. so much care and human labor in that little cup of coffee. So in 2016 we are still loving our live in our adopted country. It is January and we are feeling a bit chilly at 70F. Jeanita Wilson Ives When the Ives children were on their own
