Jeanne's Story
After graduating from Bryant High School in '62, (things will brew in '62), I moved with my parents to California. I left a boy friend and lifelong friends and was not a happy camper. I missed NY and Sunnyside a lot. I wanted to return to NY and needed a way to make a living. There was Marinello Beauty College which was a 12-month course and Sawyer Business College which was a ten-month course. I took the quickest route, Sawyer's. As things went, I visited, but never moved back to NY, met my husband to be, got married, had two children -- a boy and girl -- got divorced and was busy raising my kids and working. I retired in 2005 and have been enjoying life on my own clock....Expand for more
. My daughter had a son and my grandson is the light of my life. He's now 6, almost 7, and I spend a lot of time with him. I've heard it said that if I knew grandchildren were so great, I would have had them first. I agree. I've been lucky to keep in touch with a few of my Queens/Bryant friends and I treasure those people. I loved high school, not the work but the friends. We had some good times. I can hardly believe that those of us who graduated in 1962 are now turning 70. Inside, I don't feel so different.....I listen to the same oldies but goodies and doo wop music and have great memories of life in Sunnyside. I hope everyone is happy and healthy and enjoying life.
