Jeanne's Story
Life
I've realized over the years, that good friends remain in your life no matter what. I've also learned that good things DO come to those who wait (and who are deserving of good things) Life also has a strange way of turning itself around...just when you least expect it. I am a retired Reading Specialist from the Pawling Central school district and Tully School district, having taught for 31 years.teaching. I recently moved back to the Syracuse area after living in CT for 30 years. There's no place like Central NY.
One thing that would surprise people who knew me from high school is that in my spare time I enjoyed riding my motorcycle. I went to Bike week '04 in Daytona Beach Florida and participated in charity/benefit rides in CT. I think over the years, I've learned to live life to the fullest and experience everything that you can-at least once.
School
I enjoyed Fayetteville-Manlius hs, but not as much as I enjoyed college. High school certainly prepared me for many real life social situations!! My 4 years at Cortland State were the best. After graduation, I chose to pursue my Master's degree at Oswego and live at home. Those two years were tough, but I'm happy I did it. My job as a teacher was very rewarding and I am currently enjoying retirement.
College
I clearly enjoyed my years at Cortland State. I made many friends and I am still in touch with some classmates. The best times were spent at "The Pink house" with all of the guys who lived there. Art, Daryll, Mike and Kevin, had some great parties. I spent most of my ...Expand for more
four years at Cortland with my boyfriend at the time-Art who I have fond memories of. After graduation, I got a job teaching Migrant Farm children through a grant that I applied for. The grant paid for my schooling at SUNY Oswego, to receive my Master's degree in Reading. Upon completion of my Master's, I got a job teaching Reading in Tully NY. I also created and taught the first formal Gifted and Talented program for children K-6. I was employed there for six years. My ex-husband (Rob Hudson, FM '81, who I married in 1985) was transferred to Connecticut and I left teaching (and the Syracuse area) to sell mortgages for Personal Mortgage Co. After two years of that, I applied for a teaching job in Pawling NY, which is 30 min from my home. I taught Reading K-12 in Pawling and I have specialized training for Dyslexia Practitioner and Therapist. Cortland State prepared me for my profession and I'm one of the few people who actually loved getting up to go to work. Over the years I worked with many people who I knew at Cortland. I have two sons-Ryan (35) who is married and has two children-Hunter (3) and Conner (8mths) and Drew (32) who recently married in June of 2022-they both live in Liverpool. Time certainly does go by quickly, but I do not feel any older!!!
Workplace
I retired in 2018 from teaching in Dutchess County NY. I was a Reading Specialist in the middle school which houses 400 students 5-8. I worked primarily with students who score poorly on district assessments, Dyslexic students and Learning Disabled students in grades 5-8.
