In 1995 I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation and had decompression surgeries in 2001 and 2004 at the University of Chicago. I have had this since birth. I am a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I teach music history, baroque flute, early music ensemble, and a course in Jewish Studies. I've been here since 1987 (finished Ph.D. in 1988). I got tenure in 1995. I live in an 80-year old house a block from a lake and very close to campus. I'm currently completing an (overdue) book which is (alas) already listed on Amazon. Before living in Madison I lived in New Haven, Connecticut and spent a year in Berlin working on my dissertation.
