Jeanne's Story

In 1960, I married Bobby Watkins, and we had one son Robert. Bobby was a Tidehaven Star Athlete, that's what someone told me recently, when I asked them if they knew him, a football Coach and school teacher. I guess, I was too young to be married! Bobby is a good person, we are good friends today and have a great son! In 1967 we divorced! I worked at the Daily Tribune over 3 yrs. in the advertising dept. I married Fred Murchison in 1970, and moved to Brenham. We moved to Pearsall, Texas in 1972. Jenny Lynn was born in 1975.. We lived in Pearsall for about 20 yrs. We bought a ranch, it was beautiful and had 2.miles of the Frio River that ran through it, was about a 100 miles from the border. We went across the border all the time, every time we had guests, that's where they wanted to go, to eat at the Cadillac Bar and shop. My ladies Dutch Treat Club, I was a charter member and one of the three that started it, anyway we used to go over there several times a year. I was recently invited to meet the Dutch Treater's and go to the Dolf Brisco Western Art's museum and eat at Casa Rio on the river. I had a wonderful time visiting with all my old friends. Our club started when Jenny was 5 months old and it's still going strong. It was a different life in Pearsall and I enjoyed it very much. My chilren were growing up and going to school and graduated from Pearsall High School. We lived life to the fullest and it was great. I was a stay at home Mom while my children were growing up. I was involved socially, politically, with church and school, it was a great time in my life. I have lived in San Antonio, Texas for 20 years. I like it here, living in a large city after living in small towns most of my life is again different, but at this time in my life, I'm enjoying it. I have good old friends that I enjoy very much. I worked with the elderly for about 10 years. However I do miss the country at times, I just try not to think about it, especially in the fall! I live with my son, we get along very well! He finally got me raised! lol He works at United Texas Credit Union.! My daughter lives in Fort Worth, her husband is a test pilot for the FAA! She is the Director of the Pre School at Alliance United Methodist Church. I have a grandson Anthony that was born Oct. 16th. 2008, he is the light in my heart!! He is 7 yrs. now and so smart, when I go for a visit and we go to church, his school, his swimming lessons or his soccer games, he tells everyone, " this is my Nana and touches me ". He is like a little man, but when he had friends his age around, look out. lol I also have a Granddaughter, Kathryn Loraine Kinney that is 1 yr. We are very blessed to have her. Update, Anthony is now 10 yrs., A student, plays Soccer and basketball, his Mother's sport, and is in Boy Scouts. Eric is his leader. I enjoy gardening, cooking, my church, going to the movies, eating out, & water arobics. I also enjoy fb so I can keep up with friends!! That's about it for now! I always wanted to be a Mother and the best cook and homemaker when I grew up. I always took great pride in my home and family. Going to a good movie helps me blow off steam!! If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have order, be early, and no drama to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My inspiration comes from my parents! They were pretty strick about how life should be!! lol I do love my little bejon Max, & he loves me! I have had him for 13 yrs. Max died when he was 13 yrs. We got Levi, a reddish brown Chihuahua thank goodness before Max died, and it helped us in getting over My Max. We have had Levi for 3 years and someone got him a few days ago and I'm have a really hard time, but I haven't given up. I know my baby is missing me, I miss him terribly. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel everything and add on a tin roof. My dream home would be rock w/ a tin roof and be in the country. I loved the country but want to be close to the action now. lol Mainly doctors!! lol My kids taught me to never say never, my kids are amazing adults!! If I won $100 million, I'd give a % of it to a ...Expand for more
no kill animal shelter, then spend the rest on my family, travel and education for my grandson. I don't dress like I did 10 or 15 yrs. ago! I'm big on age appropiate! I share my home with friends, which I find happy and interesting! I have 2 trophies, one for being the sports princess in Palacios high school, the other in the woman's division of skeet and trap shooting. My husband was a big game hunter, trap and skeet shooter. My oldest friend is Gloria Harvey from Palacios! Our Dad's worked together at Camp Hulen when we were born!! We visited back and forth during the years and wrote many letters when she lived in Calif. I spent the week end w/ her last week!! We had a lot of fun when we were young, eating little tomatoes from her Dad's garden in the summers, mixing 3 kinds of ice cream and mixing it w/ her Mother's electric mixer, swimming in the resovar way behind her house! Going to the dances at the pavilion, which happened about 3 times. lol My Mother thought I was taking a dress to go to Church on Sunday, which we did, but she would not have approved of me going dancing. My second oldest friend was Butch Cashion, he was 2 yrs. and I was 3 yrs., when we moved across the street, he was my BFF for many years! Mainly I remember us playing with little cars and digging tunnells in a big dirt pile behind his house, reading funny books, riding his motor bike and hanging sleeping bats from our fingers in the big tree behind his house!! haha I don't really know who I knew first Gloria or Butch!! Good memories for me of our ol' neighborhood!! My first job was at Stanley's grocery, where I got paid no telling what, to check groceries. What I remember most about it is I was a nervous wreck!. lol My first real boy friend that I had car dates with was Freddie Stanley!! Neighborhood kids played baseball in the street between our houses!! One day he called to see if I would go to the Rice Festival football game w/ him, afterwards we rode the ferris wheel down town on the square! We dated for 18 months!! lol I can not imagine why Freddie liked me, I was a stringy haired, skinny little girl, but thinking back, I guess he did. hahaha Something I never told my parents...... Our first little house was by a creek, some boys had thrown my Dad's life jacket in the creek. My Mother was so upset when I came in from school, I was in the 3rd. grade, and had walked home in the rain since my Mother didn't drive!! I took out running following the winding creek & looking for the orange life jacket, I saw it bobbing up and down, but I had to get in front of it, and I did many blocks later, but then I had to have a way to reach it! I couldn't walk by the creek so I had to run on the street a block over and run the block back to see if it was still coming! The creek seemed to be a river it was so far out of the banks! Finally I saw this huge tree that had a big limb that was out over the water! I could see it coming so I took off my shoes and climbed the tree! I walked out on the limb that went out over the raging water, I placed myself so I could catch it when it came flying by! I sat down and turned upside down hanging by my knees. When it got to me I caught it & hung on to it and little by little the water drained out of it enought so I could lift it out of the water. I remember that so well, I even remember my dress going over my face and I couldn't see, so I had to tuck it in my panties in the front!! I remember hoping no one was watching and saw my panties! By the time I walked all the way back home it was dark thirty! My Mother was frantic, they were so upset I never told them what I had done! The main thing, in my mind, was that I got the orange life jacket! I used to love to run, I ran every where!! When I worked at the Daily Tribune those 3 yrs., I was running up and down the streets, running the ads for the news paper, and back to have them checked before they ran in the paper. I loved being out in my yellow Mustang, instead of being cooped in our office all day. I shared office space with the boss of the advertising dept. I did have my own desk and phone!
