Jeannie's Story
Life
After living in Europe for several years, I relocated back to the U.S. to sunny Florida where IÂ am happily married and enjoy my career as a writer/journalist and a full-time editor. We have 2 beautiful children and 3 equally as charming dogs (as a proud mother I have the right to be biased, no?). Our newest family addition is a recently adopted Bouvier (Belgian sheepdog) puppy sent as a wedding present by a dear friend in Belgium.
After graduating from Hoffman, I went to U of I where I received a degree in Communications. I then spent 13 (WAY TOO LONG) years married to Mr. Wrong. We had several ups & downs (obviously more down than up), but the best of times was giving birth to my 2 amazing kids. We lived a rather transient lifestyle, moving 7 times in 13 years, spending the last 7 years in Europe. Although it sounds glamorous, I can assure you that trying to juggle between being a stay-at-home mom, corporate wife, and aspiring journalist, being thrust into foreign lands and left alone with two little ones knee high was no easy task!
Nonetheless, while living overseas, I was fortunate make many amazing friends and to live in several breathtaking locations, including the Midlands of England, the wetlands of Belgium, and lesser known country of Slovenia (a former region of Yugoslavia recently made famous as the origin of Donald Trump's latest leading lady, nestled in the Alps along the Mediterranean, near northern Italy and southern Austria, known for its fine wine and delicious seafood, for you geography enthusiasts out there). During my stint overseas, I worked as a freelance journalist for various international travel & lifestyle magazines, as well as labored on a fictional full-length novel, which is n...Expand for more
ow near completion! In addition to my writing endeavors, I was very active in the editorial department for numerous international publications, working as an editor-in-chief of a monthly expatriate magazine published in Brussels and an editor for numerous organizations in Slovenia. I was avidly involved in many nonprofit charity organizations, helping raise funds and awareness for many well-deserved causes such as an outreach program for refugees, Medicine sans Borders, and a scholarship program to send exceptional students to the U.S. for educational opportunities. I also worked as a volunteer for school and sport activities. It indeed was a fulfilling and at times wild life rounded out with travel, amazing food & wine, and many unusual and exciting experiences. The children and I learned to play tennis in Belgium and ski in the Alps. We met so many incredible and eclectic friends from the Slovenian ski and snow boarding team, to diplomats, Ambassadors, and even a British rock star, and the children and I are grateful for all of our experiences.
Upon moving backs stateside, we had the amazing support of close friends to help us during the transition of moving back Âhome and a divorce to boot. One special friend in particular quickly became my very best friend and helped us through some really rocky times. Tall, dark, and ruggedly handsome, he is my Marlboro man and knight in shining armor! We were married in a beautiful sunset ceremony at the beach. My daughter was my maid of honor and my son proudly walked me down the aisle. It was a true family affair.
I hope this finds everyone well and I would love to hear from you! Please feel free to drop me a line and check out my homepage at JeannieRenee.com.
