Jeannie's Story
I've been a restless soul I guess. I always wanted to be a veterinarian but didn't have the grades. It took me quite a few years to finally settle on a profession. Became a Surgical Technologist (decided I could surely get through 1 yr. of schooling and be able to get a job that I could live on). Then decided I wanted to know more and got my BS in Nursing.
In between times of burnout from nursing I became a farrier (horseshoer), then taught in the Surgical Tech program, and went to California for 6 wks to train dogs for people with disabilities. Came back to TX and started a non-profit organization to train service dogs. Hurt my back and had to go through a refresher course for my nursing license and am back in the nursing field. dn't put into a retirement for me, initially I supported it!
I've had the opportunity to travel but not as extensively as I would like. I did get to Japan, which has been my only overseas travel, and got to hike Mt. Fuji. I drove to Alaska, put 15,000 miles on the car doing it but wouldn't trade the trip for the world. Fell in love with the Yukon...truly wide open vast wilderness. Didn't see anyone on the road for long periods of time. Great wildlife, and could stop and camp just about any gravel pit area and not have to worry about someone bothering you...wildlife maybe, but not people!
All in all I'd say I've enjoyed my life til now. Now I'm having a hard time adjusting to not being able to do the things that I did when I was younger. Little things...like noticing that I don't have the strength to get the cap off a jar without having a gripper or something to help me.
So life is a process and I'm processing.
