Jeannie's Story

Geez, where to start? After high school, my marriage to Arthur lasted a year and we divorced. I had moved back with my parents to Chula Vista and then Bonita. I met the dad of my two younger kids at a party in Spring Valley in 1976 and worked in Mission Valley for awhile before my second child, Rose, was born. Shortly after we moved to the Antelope Valley (northeast of the San Fernando Valley)in 1979 and started working for Kaiser and then had my third child, Alex while working and attending school at AV College in 1981. In 1983, I divorced the second husband and stayed in the AV where I met my husband, Oscar, in a bar. He raised all three of my children as though they were his own. He is from Victorville and comes from a large family, like mine. He played basketball (very well)and taught me to love the game and we are HUGH Laker fans. We did very well between both of us working and then our daugther made us grandparents in October of 1999. Our grand daughter, Desiree, was (and still is) a true blessing in our lives. Our oldest son, Manuel, had joined the Marine Corps in 1998 and the next year our younger son went off to college at UC Northridge. Then our daughter was hired on at Kaiser in Woodland Hills, so we felt the time was right to make our move, so we sold our home in 10...Expand for more
days and temporarily rented a condo before moving to SD. I retired after 27 years with Kaiser and my husband retired after 31 years with Mission Linen. I got hired on with Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista in November of 2006 and we now enjoy living the condo life in Mission Valley off the golf course. I can't believe how much SD has changed since I left in '79. CV is a sea of rooftops for miles where green grass used to be. Our son, Alex, made us grandparents for a second time when Alex the third was born in September of 2007. It was April of 2008 that we found out that Manual had stage 4 melenoma and Oscar took care of him full time until his death last January. The timing of our move was unbelievable because he received his care at the VA in La Jolla, which is only 15 minutes from our home and if we had been in the AV, the closest VA facility from there was West LA, well over an hour away. His ashes are in the wall at Fort Rosecrans up in Point Loma and I can see where he is when I drive to work and back everyday. We are very fortunate to live in San Diego, or as Oscar puts it "God's country". He is a kick ass lead guitarist and is forming his own classic rock band and hopes to be out playing the clubs in SD by Summer '10. When that happens, I'll update this information.
