Jeff's Story

College i attended the school of hardknocks at wasamtta u !!! located here in sunny north carolina...lol on a more serious note after high school i lived w/ a girl i met who was a bit older than i. i worked for a customs broker at ohare w/ bruce mckee got involved in a real bad crowd and i moved here to charlotte north carolina in feb. 89'w/ my folks. in that year i dug ditches for about a year realizing i wasnt going to get far doing that i went to work for an electrical contractor i did that for about a year and a half. during that time i bought my first motorcycle an 89' ninja 750. in 88' i was living w/ bruce mckee and i saw my first moto gp on tv sat forward and told bruce i was going to do that one day. bruce said you've never rode in your life you'll get killed." bought the bike in june 89' spent every moment i could spare in the north carolina mountains. recieved my racing license in march of 90'. in 91' i met an owner of a race team called keystone and my motorcylce career began that season i worked as a mechanic trained by the owner who took a likeing to me as he had no kids of his own.. mario duhamel older brother of miguel was one of our riders, we became friends. i was able to spend time on the road w/ miguel duhamel got to know thier father ivan who was once a world champ, doug chandler who was also a gp rider, scott russell(93 world champ) dave sadowski, rob muzzy a close personal friend of the team owner. i was able to watch a sport grow the people behind it and all that went w/ it. still wanting to race i started a painting co. in a fast growing area of charlotte.. i lost my license in 89' w/ that first bike..lol and didnt get it back untill i was 24. my folks lent me 150.00 and i borrowed a truck and a few tools and that business went till 99'. (couldnt compete w/ the mexicans here.) in that time i learned about racing and motorcycles, the owner of the team i worked for sold me a 87' factory suzuki(1 of ten produced) i still have it. i raced modern superbikes untill 98' in the wera superbike series then began to race 2-4 and 6 hr endurance races in the national series. in all that time ive been invited and competed in 10 national campionships, broke into the top 15 in the amatuer ranks several times and finished 5th once nationaly and thir...Expand for more
d in the south east region twice..in all those years broke my finger once and fell 12 or 13 times at 100+ mi. per hr. who says motorcycles are dangerous.. kidding. in 1999 i began working in a dealership as a parts guy, 2000 i became a service manager raced once in awhile as my prioritys and time constraints changed. in nov 2001 i was test riding a motorcycle before i went home for the evening to meet my mother, who came into town to help my neice w/ her newborn. the tech who performed repairs on that gsxr1000 made some mistakes and the throttle stuck open. with no way to stop the 150 hp motorcyle i hammered the rear brake to slide it out and get off it and hi sided it and hit a street sign. long story short i broke my back in two places broke all the ribs in my chest collapsed one lung had several puntures in the other and worst of all i tore my aorta.. luck was on my side that day as an ambulance was comming down that road a vol. fireman saw the end of the crash and was off the road and at the hospital before anyone knew i was gone.. i was in a medicaly induced coma for 2 weeks and woke up on my birthday nov 30th. do to modern medicine i learned to walk again. i have a four level fusion from t11 thru l1 and they repaired my heart w/ a nylon stint and skin graft around the aorta.. i was in rehab untill dec 24th 2002. being a hard headed chicagoan i returned to work three months later in a wheel chair while rehabing to learn to walk again. took 5 years to heal my body and well the mind takes a bit longer.. i miss racing and started a team in 05' it was to difficult for me to continue in the racing community w/o participating.. i have never been back to the track. as a child i was a sea scout(sailing) in oct 07' i earned a charter boat license for up to 45' sailboats in charleston sc. i now spend my time volenteering at the hospital that saved my life and the rehab center that returned me to it. i day trade and work in a dealership i live w/ my g/f in matthews nc. offcourse there are many storys of being on the road, racing and all that comes w/ that. ive been fortunate to see and do what ive done so far. to be honest im grateful to have grown up where i did and around the people i have becuse w/o you guys im not sure i would have dared to dream..
