Jeff's Story

Life After high school I became a reserve police officer for Santa Ana and then joined the Orange County Sheriff Department as a full-time deputy in 1979. I also got married that year to Dawn Embree (She didn't go to THS). I transferred back to the Santa Ana Police Department in 1981, which was also when my first daughter, Cassandra, was born. My second, Shannon was born in 1986. I spent 16 years with SAPD during which time I worked patrol, child abuse investigation, School Resource Officer, patrol and station supervisor, crime scene investigator, and was a hostage negotiator for SWAT. By the way, CSI is not like the show! During my tenure I decided that I wanted to do something else so I went back to school and got BS and MS degrees in marine biology and biology, respectively. I left SAPD in 1997 and became a marine biologist with the Orange County Sanitation District in Fountain Valley. While there I earned a Ph.D. in biological oceanography from City University Los Angeles. I am now Senior Scientist in the OCSD ocean monitoring program. I have contributed to several books and have published...Expand for more
articles in scientific journals on topics ranging from natural and anthrpogenic effects on reproduction of fish and invetebrates to the effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals in coastal environments. In 2005 I was accepted into Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Science and Engineering. In 2004, Dawn and I celebrated our 25th anniversary. I have a sailboat in Dana Point and our plan is to retire on a live-aboard bluewater cruiser and sail the world. I'm still a baseball fanatic (GO ANGELS!) and have played in adult hardball leagues off and on until last year, but weightlifting is my primary source of exercise. I'm a parrothead to the bone (Fins up!) and plageurize a lot of my outlook on life from Jimmy. Well, there's 27 or so years in a nutshell. I hope your lives have been as happy and fulfilling as mine has been. I haven't gone to reunions or tried to contact anyone because my life's philosophy is that there's too much to see up ahead so why dwell on the past, whether it was good or bad; plan for the future, but live the moment! But, who knows? Maybe I'll make one someday. Jeff
