Jeff's Story

Life Born in Coffeyville KS in 1969, went to Garfield middle school up untill 3rd grade. Midway through 3rd I transferred to Holy Name Catholic School and finished sixth grade there. Attended 7&8 middle school there in Coffeyville up until we moved to Tulsa OK in 1984. I enrolled at Union High school and graduated there. I wrestled for Union staring 9th grade all the way through. My junior year I placed first at regionals but I tore my rotator cup in my shoulder and could not compete at State. Once again my senior year I qualified for state and I placed third at the State (6A) my senior year. I received a scholarship from OU in wrestling and attended OU. The first year of college I didn't quite care for, did alright academically but wrestling and engineering did not mix. Not to mention my room mate was from Las Vegas, we never slept and then had to run five miles every morning; ouch! After my freshman year I layed out for about three years and was able to get all the partying in with Kyle Jamar & John Morrow to suffice me the rest of my life. Starting in 1993 I went back to OU and started working on my Bachelors in Electrical Engineering. During this time I had an internship with Oklahoma Gas & Electric and I also worked for my mentor professor John Fagan at OU. Working for Dr Fagan allowed me many opportunities in life. We competed bi-yearly in the US Solar Car races and we also competed in Electric Formula competitions with 13 other Universities. Staring June 6th, 1996 I had my first date with Kerri Ford from Wagner, OK. After about a year of dating, I convinced her and her five year old son Nikk with a diamond engagement ring to move. She agreed and one year we were married on Aug 1, 1998. Following my undergrad graduation in 1998, Dr. Fagan convinced me to stay and complete my Maters degree in Electrical Engineering which I completed in 2001. My Thesis was Development of a LAAS Differential GPS System; basically I designed a system to correct for errors in...Expand for more
the GPS system locally at airports. This system allowed aircraft to make precision approaches and land using GPS as their means for navigation while landing. During this time I was also able to complete my private pilot license; thanks Doc! Upon completion of my masters I accepted a job with Raytheon Aircraft Integration in Greenville, TX. We moved the family to Lake Tawakonee near Greenville were we bought a house on the lake. My two Chesapeake Bay retrievers loved it; they were in the water 24/7. Starting 2002 I accepted a job with Mercury Marine in Stillwater, OK. This was the same location that made the LT5 Corvette Engine in the early 1990’s for GM. My job was to help Boat builder integrate Mercury’s engines and drive systems correctly in vessels. Earlier this year I moved positions to a sister company to Mercury with in Brunswick which is MotoTron. I now work with a great group of individuals designing engine control systems and systems like drive-by-wire and steer-by-wire for marine, automotive and off-road applications. It was somewhat daunting for an OU grad to move to OSU territory but I’m holding up. Earlier this year Kerri came home from work to check on me, I was suffering from the Flu and I was in the fetal position on the couch. She hands me a bag and I reach down into it and there is a card and what looks to be a digital thermometer, I grab the device and thinking to my self “she wants me to check my temperature”; so as I start to put it in my mouth, she yells “Stop, what are you doing? Look at it!” Good thing I didn’t put it in my mouth, we’re having a baby! Kerri is due on 12/12/2005 and it’s a girl! Just goes to show God is paying me back! That’s it up to this point. This winter I plan on hunting quite a bit with my chessies before the baby gets here. ~JAB 9/23/2005 Update: 11/30/2005 Falon Grace Brant is born. Living in Stillwater, OK.
