Jeff's Story

Life I've been living here in Ozark, Arkansas since 1984. Got divorce 18 or so years ago (don't keep up with it since it don't matter). Oldest (step)son, Tim, is married with two kids and is moving to Kentucky after living in Wyoming for quite awhile. My next son, Allen, is in telecommunications (not to be confused with telemarketing) and is now in New Jersey (or Hell as he calls it) after living a brief while in Seattle (his favorite place) and here with me for a year after being in San Francisco for several years. He is single and probably will be for life (as I probably should have). My youngest son, Clifford was born with brain damage from an inept intern with forceps and short patience (not patients, unless he worked on midgets too). He lived 12 years after we were told he wouldn't make it 2 months and was a blessing to all who knew him. I live alone with my one dog, Sadie, and about 22 cats (all outdoor cats, I never have mice or snakes). I have been in the wine business doing sales and deliveries for almost 14 years out here. Altus, Arkansas has 4 wineries and I've worked for 3 of them (4 if you count me running sound for the Weiderkehr Winefest this year). I worked 11 and 1/2 years for Post Familie Winery. They got really big and corporate so I quit and went to work for Chateau Aux Arc for a year and a half, but decided to quit and get out of the wine business. A couple of months ago, Michael Post, from Mount Bethel Winery called me wanting me to work for him on getting new wine routes set up, so I did. I also work part time for a friend who has a gaswell flowbac...Expand for more
k service. Been doing that for about a year. My wine jobs have always been based around my own schedule. I can pick and choose my own days and hours, so if I need to take off to work a gaswell or play a gig, it's no problem. I didn't make my 10 year class reunion because I was married, living in Oklahoma City and couldn't afford it. I missed my 20 year reunion because I was newly divorced and damn sure couldn't afford it. I was all set for number 30, but they ended up not having one. I should be all set for the 40th if we have one. I can even bring a band if someone gets with me in time and lets me know. My band, Rat Sass, is a 3-piece rock n roll band and we play everything from Creedence to Pink Floyd to Bob Seger and on and on. When I moved here in '84, the club scene was hot and paid well. Over the years it's died down a bit and pays about half what it did then. I'm bummed so lately been thinking about forgetting about live gigs and going into my studio and becoming a musical hermit until I can create the music that no one can say no to. I know, it's just a myth, but if you don't believe in myths, just wait 'til you try to collect your social security. I'm sorry. That was just a weak scare tactic and I shouldna done it. But, seriously, if you have any local bands that you enjoy seeing occasionally, try to get out more and support them. Live music is being replaced slowly but surely by DJs and TV and stuff and you're gonna miss 'em when they're gone. Well that's all about me for now. Get in touch with me and let me know whasssup wid you! Peace out homeboy, Jeff Coley
