Jeff Hillery:

CLASS OF 1976
Duncanville, TX

Jeff's Story

Life A lot has just happened to me. Some of these things made me search for old classmates who might know how I could reach other people from our class. I have lost contact with everyone. Now after almost 30 years I realize that these are the people that I grew up with and should have kept in touch. I'm getting really deep here but it's true. So..... enough of that ... Let me tell you what's been go'en on. I went to A&M and taught school on the High School level for 4 years. I got bord with Education and trained myself in the air-conditioning business. I'm to honest to work in the service end of the business so I got involved with hotels in the downtown Dallas area. It took me 25 years before hotels burned me out. Starting as a maintenance worker I soon went to Assistant Chief Engineer. Then I jumped into the motion picture industry. I maintained the equipment that processed the 35 mm film and applied sound. That was a very interesting job but it couldn't pay enough. One day I got a call from one of my hotel bosses. He set me up with a Chief Engineers position at the Hilton at Lincoln Center. After 5 years I went to work for that same old boss as Assistant Chief Engineer at the Adolphus Hotel. One of the neat things I did while I worked for the Adolphus was to help with the Adolphus / Children's Hospital Christmas Parade. I was in charge of the giant inflatabal balloons. I became Chief Engineer for a while t...Expand for more
hen went to work at the Adams Mark as Assistant Director of maintenance. This hotel has over 1800 rooms. It was the 9th largest in the USA. We also had a convention center that was across the street. I controlled over 10,000 tons of air-conditioning and worked on almost every part of the facility. Even a full commercial laundry and dry-cleaning plant. I had reached the top of my field and found out that I didn't want to be there. Two years after a nervous breakdown I downsized and simplified. I now work for the Arlington School District as a HVAC Tech. I'm just a normal guy that has a very low stress job a makes enough money to but gas in the boat and cars and keep a family clothed and fed. I'm happier than I've been for a long time. O...I forgot to tell you.... I met my wife in a hotel. Sounds a little seedy don't it. Well,...... We both worked for the same hotel. I found out later that I was set up. Peggy, (O.K.--Try not to make any jokes about the similarities between the names found in the cartoon show "King Of The Hill") my wife, told my boss that she was interested in me and he made sure that we all ate lunch together. After a few weeks I asked her out. Two years later we married and soon came my little girl Charlie (real name Charlotte). We live in an old farm house near the town square in Lancaster. We are trying to sell the old place now in hopes of finding something out in the country. Jeff
