Jeff's Story

Life Bonnie (Catoe) and I married in 1988. We owned and operated a hair/tan/nail salon - Sunsations - for 8 years. During that time I went back to USC and finished with IT degree. Bonnie and I lived in a small house in Woodfield in Columbia. It was a house she grew up in. We remodeled it and sold it and moved to Elgin to get closer to Grandparents. We lived in Haigs Creek. We closed the business to start a family. I went to work for "the man" full time in claims administration in Columbia,IT job - Consoliated Benefits, Inc. Bonnie continued to do hair at Image Makers in Columbia. Dena Nichole was born on 9/7/97 at 36 weeks. On 8/12/2000, Sydney Lynn was born at 28 weeks. Our house burned to the ground on July 4, 2003. We lost everything. Our motorhome caught fire in the back yard, rolled into the house and caught the house on fire. Bonnie and I were also separated which complicated things. We suspect fireworks, but there never was an official cause. In late 2003 I moved to Pittsburgh to take a job as CIO for Managed Care of America, Inc. Bonnie and the kids remained behind. After reconciliation, I moved Bonnie and kids to Pittsburgh. Seven months later, we were bought out by another company...Expand for more
. Incentives to stay were no longer there after merger so I resigned and cashed in my stock options. We packed up and moved back to SC. PA was fun though, Pittsburgh won the Superbowl while we were there and it was incredible. Gold and Black, hmmm, there's some memories. Enjoyed big city perks too. Glad to be home though. Lost Dad in 2004 and still miss him. Bonnie had bought another house in Haigs Creek when we were apart and we still had that house to move back to. Sold the house in PA in two days. Funny how things line up when you do the right thing. I have spent the last two years being a stay at home dad. It's the hardest job I've ever had. School, field trips, laundry, cook, clean. The pay also sucks. I have been blessed to have the last two years to reconnect with my girls. What a blessing. After all, it's all about them isn't it? I am currently working at the Richland Community Health Care Services as Chief Information Officer. Email me, I'd love to hear from any and all of you. Peace and Godspeed, Jeff. PS, take this for what it's worth, if you think your relationship is broken, fix it, don't go looking elsewhere, what you lose is not worth it, especially if you have children.
