Jeff's Story

Life Ok…. where do you start with a life Bio? Will we be using this for my eulogy later? I can tell you that I am 36 years young, and I am really enjoying life. It has been quite an exciting roller coaster ride. I have really strong ties with my family and friends. Since BGHS in the colorful 80’s, I have graduated from college, worked hard, and played even harder. The past 10 years have really flown by. I have been fortunate enough through work to have been able to travel quite extensively and have many great experiences. Although I don’t travel as much as in the past, I still remain very busy. In 2000’ I bought a house in Johnsburg to enjoy my first love, water sports. I live on the Chain O’ Lakes (Fox River). I enjoy wakeboarding, skiing, wave running and boating. One sure fire way to find me this summer is to either be boating on the Chain, or sitting in the bleachers cheering the Cubbies on to victory! I am still single looking for the right woman. She is out there somewhere. One thing I know for sure is that she has to be a Cub fan! The single greatest life altering experience for me happened in 2001’ when I ran into a house on fire with my neighbor and pulled out a bed ridden woman from the blaze. Two minutes later the roof literally blew off the house. It was at that point I realized that life was too short. You never know what tomorrow is going to bring. That is why I am very spontaneous. It sure does keep life interesting. I am always willing to try something new at least once. Just as my grandfather once told me” Nothing in life is impossible; accept skiing through a revolving door!” School High School for me involved routine after routine. I had good friends and really didn’t get into much trouble. My sophomore year I missed an entire semester because I was in the hospital. The scary part was that nobody noticed. At that point in my life, I pretty much kept to myself, avoiding large group situations. I didn’t even go to “Spud Aid”, even though I knew Chris and Tom Noie pretty well from all the years of baseball we played together. I did have a lot of fun working at Barnaby’s on Rand. The pizza fights and free pizzas for my friends were a definite perk. I went to a whole bunch of concerts in high school. Did we really dress like the 80’s rock stars? Thank god none of us dressed up like Dee Snider of Twisted Sister. And yes, I will own up to it, I saw Twisted Sister in concert. I still have my skinny ties and parachute pants to prove my age. I need to have a ceremonial bonfire burning party for those items. Best (and worst) story: During my Spanish class with Senora Steele. I sat behind one of the most beautiful girls in our class. Even though we never went on a date, I will never forget her. I won’t mention her name. (The names have been changed to protect the innocent.) She always made it a point to turn around each day and say hi...Expand for more
to me. I had a hard time ever mustering up a word or a grunt. One day in class we had to get up in front of the class and give an oral presentation (skit) in Spanish. She said during her skit that she wanted to go out with me that weekend. Was I an idiot back then? She pretty much under no uncertain terms was asking me out. What did I do? It was like a bad 80s movie. I froze up and put my head down. I was so terribly much in absolute awe of her that I could never bring myself to ask her out. What a coward I was back then. I hope I didn’t offend her. Oh well, I guess that’s why they call it growing pains. College I attended Valparaiso University in lovely Valpa-rain-snow-windy-anna. Those of you who knew me well in high school remember a short, skinny, quiet, metal-head. After four years of school nobody recognized me. My drivers license said I was 5’5 130lbs. Upon college graduation I was 6’0 and 175. It must have been the beer and dorm food. I joined the Sigma Chi fraternity which quickly solved my outspoken nature. I had a fun time running my weekly radio show… you guessed it…a heavy metal show. What can I say, old habits die hard. I ended up with a bachelors in Electrical Engineering. I made many life long friends which I still stay in contact with today. Funniest Story: For an April Fools party at my apartment my fraternity brother in crime “Stinky” and I (“Wad”) decided to test the theory of subliminal suggestion. We bought 2 Kegs of non-alcoholic beer and told nobody. Of course we had real beer (at that time it meant Milwaukees Best) if you can call it that. We secretly filled our cups with that beer and watched the party unfold. You had girls asking guys to spend the night, drive them home, you name it, all in the name of “I’m too drunk and feeling really buzzed” The guys were no better. Brother Peeper was doing beer bongs and claimed to be “really sandbagged”. This entertainment ran all night until both kegs were drained. I have never laughed so hard in my life. The next day at our fraternity chapter meeting, I spilled the beans about the party. There was complete silence for at least a minute. They thought I was lying to them. That’s when I showed them the two empty keg tops that read ODouls. Workplace I have been in engineering sales ever since college. I really enjoy getting out and meeting people. No two days are ever the same. I have traveled through almost every state in the US. I never realized how much there really is to see here in our own beautiful country. I honestly enjoy technical sales. I don’t feel that I am ever shoving product down anyone’s throat. Every project I work on offers better solutions to their current application. I also get to see all of the latest cutting edge technology. I currently work for PolyScience in Niles. We manufacture a comprehensive line of refrigerated and heating circulators.
