Life
I started working in the outdoor industry when I was in highschool. My plan was to get a degree and start my own business selling gear but the economy was really bad when I got out. I met my wife Judy in Colorado and she got a job in Madison after we graduated. I went to work at an outdoor store after we moved to Madison and eventually became a buyer for 8 stores. I tried to buy into the business but the owners couldn't make it happen. From there I became a sales rep and wholesaled to stores in 9 states. I left there after 4 years, and started my own agency. ng agency in Minneapolis. I built an office in Madison and traveled non-stop for 10 years. I sold it 2 years ago and am semi- retired. I recently bought another business and work there part-time. I now serve on the board of directors of the Outdoor Industries Association. We oversee the outdoor industry in the US and lobby for preservation of wilderness lands and roadless areas. I also do volunteer work for Big City Mountaineers. BCM takes at-risk teens into the wilderness. Its great to see the light go on now and then with these kids. They have had a rough road and constantly remind me how lucky I have been.
