Jeff's Story
After High School I just hung around Minot AFB working at the Base Exchange ( BX ) along with working at the Cafeteria and the Military Clothing Sales Store and the Shoppette, and when I wasn't working I was Bowling on a few mens leagues and subbed on a couples league and drinking beer in between, after about 5 yrs. after I graduated from High School I joined the U.S Navy with my younger Brother Scott, the once we both Graduated from Boot Camp then we had 2 weeks of apprenticeship training before we headed out to Sea on our 1st sea surface ship, our 1st ship was an Oil Tanker which refueled other U.S Navy Ships like Air Craft Carriers, Guided Missles Cruisers, Frigates & Destroyers along with other Oil Tankers, then we started seeing other foreign countries like the Phillipines, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Thaialand, Hong Kong, China & Austraillia. We did a hell of alot partying in the foriegn countries along with taking a hell of alot pictures too. And made quite of few good friends while being in the U.S Navy together. But my Brother only stayed in for his 1st 4 yrs. and then got out and went back home to Minot. But I stayed in made my way over to the East Coast after being on the 1st 2 ships together w/ my younger Brother Scott, our 2nd U.S Navy Ship was an Oil Tanker also. and we were stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hi. from 1980 TO 1982. We made 3 West Pacific Cruises. So after my Brother got out of the Navy, I ended up on a Guided Missle Cruiser called the USS Horne CG-30 Home ported out of San Diego, Calif. Naval Base. I was only on there for 6 months, only cuz I didn't extend and because it was the last 6 months left of my 1st 4 yr. enlistment, so then I headed to the East Coast, went to a Navy School at Anniston, Ala. for 5 weeks, then I headed up to Norfolk Naval Base, Va. I was there from May 83' until June 85, I was at a Shore Command called ASWTRACENT for about 1 1/2 then I went back to being on another Oil Tanker called the USS Seattle AOE-3 which was home port was Norfolk Naval Base, and when I reported onboard the USS Seattle AOE-3 she was pier side in Augusta Bay, Sicilile...Expand for more
y, so after our ship left there we visited some other ports in Europe like Villa, France & Toulon, France, along with Rota, Spain & Ibiza Spain, plus Athens Greece, some of the guys from our ship arranged to pay for a tour guide why were in Toulon, France to go to Paris, France, which I got to spend some of my 30th Birthday in Paris, France before we had to head back to our ship via a Bullet Train which travelled at the speed of 200 mph. But I ended up getting out of the U.S. Navy in June 0f 85' but I ended up joining the U.S. Navy Reserves out of Fargo, N.D. WHERE i only had to go down once a month and a 2 week training period once a year, but there was a point where we went on a 4 day training period where I boarded
the plane in Minot to places like San Diego Naval Base and worked at their Naval Supply Center and then we left their to head back home on a Sunday, we also went to p;aces like Oakland Supply Depot along with Pensacola, FL. Supply Center/ Air Base, then we also went to Pearl Harbor, Hi. Supply Center for a 6 day Training in Dec. of 92 and back again in the end of Jan. through the 1st week of Feb. for a 2 week Training. Myself and 2 other friends of mine in my Reserve Unit Volunteered for a 3 month tour to the Phiilippines during the 1st Gulf War, we had a Naval Base over there called Subic Bay, I worked at the Supply Depot there. I ended up extending for another 3 months, because I ended up getting married over there to a Phiippine National, yo make a long story shorter I met up with my wife back then in Sanfransisco and flew back home to Minot, we had a Daughter together back in 93, so she is 16 yrs. old now since 15 Apr., but I don't have enough time to tell you how she got out to East Haven, CT w/my ex-wife now, but I have since got remarried to a girl here in Minot almost 3 yrs. ago come the 17th of June. she is from Minot, before she married me her name was Susan Brey. My Daughter's name is Crystal of course with my last name. I retired from the U.S. Navy Reserves back on Apr.1, 2001 so now I'm working for a Painting & Woodworking Company in town here in Minot.
