One of Jeff's favorite quotes is:"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. [James 1:2-3] Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” [Joshua 1:9] The Armor of God Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. [Ephesians 6:10-18] When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. [Isaiah 43:2] Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I PRESS ON TO TAKE HOLD of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I DO: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. I press on toward the GOAL to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.[Philippians 3:12-14] Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. [1 Cor 9:24-27] Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. [Romans 5:3-5] Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed [1 Peter 4:12-13] Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. [2 Cor 12:7b-10] Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light. Because I have sinned against him, I will bear the LORD’s wrath, until he pleads my case and ...Expand for more
upholds my cause. He will bring me out into the light; I will see his righteousness. [Micah 7:8-9] Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. [Proverbs 4:23] Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given. Don't Let Yesterday's Sorrows Destroy Today's STRENGTH “There's a Difference Between INTEREST and COMMITMENT. When You're INTERESTED in Doing Something, You Do it Only When Circumstance Permit. When You're COMMITED to Something, You Accept NO EXCUSES, ONLY RESULTS.” You dont become great just bc you want to be; you dont achieve greatness bc there is a lack of great people in the world... No you embody greatness bc there is a fire in your soul that says "keep going" when everyone around you stops; you dont become great by doing things that are fun and pleasueable all the time; no you achieve it by doing things that hurt by choosing pain both physically and mentally Warriors take chances. Like everyone else, they fear failing, but they refuse to let fear control them.” - Samurai proverb Physical strength is measured by what we can carry; spiritual by what we can bear. ~Author Unknown "Each Day's a Gift and Not a Given Right; Leave no Stone Unturned; Leave your Fears Behind and Try to Take the Path Less Traveled By; That First Step You Take is the Longest Stride...Against The Grain Should Be a Way of Life..." Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality. It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions. And the actions which speak louder than the words. It is making the time when there is none. Coming through time after time after time, year after year after year. Commitment is the stuff character is made of; the power to change the face of things. It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism. Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, a spark that creates extraordinary results. Sometimes youre ahead sometimes youre behind, sometimes you win and sometimes youll lose; the race is long and hard, the end result isnt what matters most. Its the journey and its who was brave enough to stand beside you throughout your quest. - JG Original A lot of places I go I go alone but not by choice its because I want to go places people dont commonly like going. I want to do something different, see something better, change things... I pray for STRENGTH, GOD provides the BATTLES of Life for me to CONQUER- Not alone But With Him; I pray for PURITY, The LORD Baptizes me by FIRE; I pray for INTEGRITY, Our FATHER puts me in situations where I am tested to choose the HARD RIGHT over the EASY WRONG; I pray to be FORGIVEN & SAVED and HE washes me in HIS ...BLOOD; I pray for COURAGE, The Great ALPHA & OMEGA douses me with my FEARS; I pray for PEACE in my SOUL, HE teaches me to LOVE; I pray for WISDOM, Our KING presents VEXING questions in my HEART, I pray for HELP, The Amazing "I AM" GIVES ME THE GIFT OF MY FRIENDS & FAMILY; I pray for LIFE and HE GAVE me his DEATH... I pray to be the MAN HE DESIRES me to be, The LORD shows me the BOY I was yesterday. I PRAY to be a LEADER OF MEN, HE softly says "If you want to LEAD you MUST FOLLOW... “Life isn’t about hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward- That’s How Winning's Done” “I have no ambition in this world but one, and that is to be a fireman. The position may, in the eyes of some, appear to be a lowly one; but we who know the work which the fireman has to do believe that his is a noble calling. Our proudest moment is to save lives. Under the impulse of such thoughts, the nobility of the occupation thrills us and stimulates us to deeds of daring, even of supreme sacrifice.” Chief Edward F. Croker Irish born, American Firefighter, Chief of Department, FDNY (1899-1911), 1865-1951) I'm a people person, very personable. I absolutely insist on enjoying life. Not so task-oriented. Not a work horse. If you're looking for a Clydesdale I'm probably not your man. Like I don't live to work, it's more the other way around. I work to live. Incidentally, what's your policy on Columbus Day? ...You, Me and Dupree".
