Jeff's Story

After high school I worked at the Texaco station on PCH near the Torrance airport rebuilding VW bug engines. I entered the USAF in 3/68-12/71. I got my Army draft notice the Tuesday after I arrived in Amarillo, TX. I went to tech school in Rantoul IL and trained on B-52’s and C-141. My first duty station was to Tacoma WA. I was an aircraft mechanic on the C-141 Starlifter for about 1 ½ years and then I worked in the Chief of Maintenance office one of those rooms with no windows, giant telephone sets and multiple radio bands. Very exciting and lots of top secret stuff (no I still can’t tell you). Turned down a promotion to Tech Sgt as part of a re-up package and discharged as a Staff Sgt. And returned to Torrance CA. Sherry Branch and I married in '69 and she joined me in Tacoma WA. Our son Taige was born in April '71. I took some college classes while in the Air Force at Tacoma Community College and attained enough credits to complete the first semester at El Camino completed both years. I won a California State Scholarship and enrolled at Loyola Marymount University where I was a Political Science major and Business minor graduated in ‘75 with honors and went to Loyola Law School completing the first year (hated it). I decided not to pursue law. I joined the Calvary Church (the old Fish Shanty restaurant) on PCH and was a senior high school Sunday school teacher. We started with 7 kids and were blessed to have over 200 ...Expand for more
kids each Sunday. I spent 12 years as a headhunter the last two years with my own shop. Mitsubishi Electric Information Systems was one of my clients and they reached out to me to join them. I took a position as a program manager and worked for them for 10 years. Left them in 1998 and went into SAP Consulting. Management and Systems consultant for 16 years. I worked for IT Services, Titan Consulting, ea Consulting, Bearing Point, Ciber, and Idhasoft. I retired in 2015. Today we live in the country about 4 miles from the small town of Selma Oregon. We raise Angora goats and Gotland sheep on our 100-acre ranch in Southern Oregon with my wife Carol of 30+ years. We have won several National Championships with both our breeds. Primary hobbies are golf (setup an indoor practice area with a launch monitor, HD video recording and 4 putting greens) and listening to music (two channel stereo) digital and vinyl. I gave up surfing, snow skiing, motorcycles (two crashes in the Sepulveda pass) and off road (broken leg), backpacking and fishing (10 day trip got it out of my system). Enjoying retirement. On the travel front I was fortunate to travel on business to Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Scotland, the UK, Alberta, Nova Scotia several times. Personal/Vacations in Paris, Belgium, Amsterdam, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. Enjoying retirement and will be attending the 50 year reunion. Hope to see many old friends.
