Jeff's Story
Life
After high school, I attended Purdue University and graduated with a B.S. degree, majoring as a professional pilot. I met my wife, Loraine, while at Purdue and we married two weeks after graduating. We have three daughters, Alexa, Ava & Dee. I have been a pilot with Delta Air Lines since 1991 and live in Peachtree City, a suburb of Atlanta. Prior to Delta, I worked for several different airlines, including US Air, America West and Rosenbalm Aviation (Emory Airfreight). Over the years, we have lived in Indiana (twice), Kentucky (twice), Washington State, Arizona, Virginia, and Georgia. Hopefully, we are here to stay.
School
I hung out with Steve Burleson, John Beane and David Brigham a bunch. When we weren't playing football under the Friday night lights, we liked to go out and ride the pumpjacks or get Brigham's Jeep and my Chevy Blazer and go bunny bopping. Gayanne Gaines, Dana Bostwick and Patsy Kraweitz used to occasionally go out with us after those jack rabbits. Mr. Davis, my history teacher my junior year, was one of my favorite teachers. He helped me believe that I could do anything in life.
College
I lived in Fowler Courts (parking lot now) my freshman year at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. My sophomore and junior years I lived up in the Acres under the red and ...Expand for more
white checkered water tower where I was in the Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity. While at Phi Kappa Theta my sophomore year, I met and started dating Loraine Long, who would become my wife after graduating. I moved off campus into an apartment on Vine street my senior year. I graduated from Aviation Technology (Professional Pilot Training Major) in May of 1983 and Loraine and I married two weeks later. She had a double major in Public Relations and Criminology/Criminal Justice and had one more semester to take, so we lived in married student housing just a couple of blocks up the street from Phi Kappa Theta. I worked as a bag boy then grocery stocker at Eisner's (now Jewell) out on Hwy 52 and flight instructed for Purdue during my senior year, then Lafayette Aviation right after graduating for one year.
Workplace
After college I was a flight instructor/charter pilot for about a year (1983-1984). Then flew DC-8's for Rosenbalm Aviation (Emery Air Freight) for about 3 1/2 years (1984-1987). Next, I flew for America West out of Phoenix for 2 1/2 years(1987-1990). Then I left America West for US Air (seemed like a good move at the time) and was furloughed one year later in January of 1991. Delta hired me in April of 1991 where I am now flying as a captain on the Boeing 767 and 757 in domestic operations.
